Student and Academic Services

Student and Academic Services (SAS) is responsible for the management and coordination of a wide range of student and academic administrative and service functions.

SAS manages the academic policy of the University, coordinates University-wide student administration activities from admission to graduation and is responsible for the development and maintenance of student records and related information.

SAS also provides information and analysis on a wide range of issues relating to academic and student administration, including legislative requirements and national and international trends.

The SAS Campus Central team is the Customer Service Centre for students with a branch based at each UniSA campus.

Our Commitment

Student and Academic Services aim to develop our presence and reputation as innovators in service delivery in a distributed service environment.  Our unit will be a central point-of-contact for professional expertise and advice in all aspects of academic and student administration.  Our approach will be collaborative, innovative, flexible, and responsive.  We will achieve excellence through partnerships with other areas of the University and external bodies.

Our Activities

Academic Policy

The SAS policy team provides expert advice on the interpretation and practical application of the university’s academic policies including, amongst others, the Assessment Policy and Procedures (AB-69), the Program Approval Manual (PAM) and the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy. The team also manages the ongoing review and improvement of these policies.

Programs and Courses

The SAS programs team supports University staff with expert advice on policy, processes and systems relating to the development and amendment of UniSA programs and courses. Staff are encouraged to work collaboratively with the SAS team from the early stages of program and course development, for solutions-oriented advice on structuring and presenting proposed courses and programs for approval.

Admissions and Credit

The SAS admissions team supports University staff with processes and systems relating to undergraduate, postgraduate, research degree and short program admissions as well as course credit. The team also ensures a seamless link between SATAC and the University’s admissions process for applicants.

Campus Central

Campus Central is the one-stop centre for student services and matters of student administration located at all six campuses. The team offers assistance with Program/Enrolment Advice, Graduation, Exams, Transcript/Parchments, Finance and much more.

Additionally Campus Central support the needs of Open University Australia (OUA) Students

Students can access the Ask Campus Central knowledge base for information on university life and other self-help features. As well as face-to-face counter service, students can also reach out via email ask@campuscentral.unisa.edu.au, phone 1300 301 703 or chat online.

Elite athletes and performing artists support

SAS co-ordinates this program for UniSA by offering students pre-application assistance, as well as flexible study options, support and guidance to facilitate students to successfully undertake study around their sporting or artistic commitments.

Research Student Support

The SAS research student support teams provide administrative support from the application process for scholarships and admission, to orientation and induction, administrative matters relating to candidature and scholarship payments, through to examination and graduation.

Students and staff are welcome to contact the team between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday to resolve queries and gather information. Our experienced staff can provide advice on processes and policy relating to research student administration.

Scholarships and Prizes

The SAS scholarships team administers scholarships across all study levels including Equity, high achiever, Aboriginal and international scholarships. The team also provides advice and support to staff across the university for scholarships that are administered locally by the academic units.

In addition, the team co-ordinates the annual awarding of UniSA-wide prizes, across the academic units.

Timetabling

The SAS timetabling team produces the University timetable annually, as well as providing high level advice to the academic units on the maintenance of their timetable data.

Enrolment

The SAS enrolment team coordinates and manages the university’s enrolment processes including student system requirements and support arrangements.

Student Finance

The SAS student finance team provides advice to students and staff in response to all enquiries regarding student tuition fees including student invoices, commonwealth assistance notices (CAN), Enrolment Confirmation Notices (ECN).

Examinations and Results Entry

The SAS exams and results team is responsible for the central scheduling and administration of final exams, and for providing training and procedural advice to staff across the university regarding exam administration and the entry of course grades.

Placements System Support

The System Development and Reporting team support the InPlace placement (WIL) system.  This team evaluates system access, provides training, undertakes system configuration, system improvement and defect logging, manages upgrades, new system initiatives, developing and providing reporting (extracting data), provides advice and support for Academic Unit placement teams.

Student Data Reporting

The SAS student reporting team provides customised reports to staff across the university on request as well as training for staff on the suite of available standard reports.

Academic Review

Key Campus Central staff are responsible for administering the Academic Review appeals process and meetings. All reporting and communications for Academic Review are carried out centrally while appeals are received, collated and presented to the Appeals Committee at each metro campus. All appeals meetings with students and committees are managed via Campus Central.

Graduations

Campus Central staff identify and assess students who may be eligible to graduate. Working closely with Academic Units they undertake assessments prior to each graduation ceremony round. Assessments require Campus Central staff to follow strict processes and timelines to ensure students graduate at the next available ceremony, and with the correct name details and program title.

The SAS graduations team is responsible for issuing degree parchments and transcripts and for organising and event-managing the 34 graduation ceremonies that are held in three separate sessions throughout the year.

Government Reporting

This team is responsible for the University’s statutory reporting to the Commonwealth Government of all student, program and course data. The team liaises with other units across the University to ensure the validity of data on corporate student databases.
