What is an IT Security Incident?

An IT Security Incident is defined as any action or event in contravention of the provisions of the Information Security Policy; actions or events that contravene the provisions of policy established by organisations of which UniSA is a member (eg. AUSCERT, AARNet); and/or actions or events deemed a security incident or breach by State or Federal Police organisations.

Examples of IT Security Incidents include but are not limited to:

• compromised network account (someone having the username and password of another person)
• malicious emails (phishing)
• abusive or threatening emails
• a UniSA computer infected by a virus or other form of malicious software (malware)
• any breach of the Acceptable use of Information Technology (IT) Facilities policy (C-22)
