Windows 10 Major Updates

NOTE: This page will be updated regularly and content may change.

Windows 10 is a service, which means it gets better through periodic software updates. Major updates provide improvements to functionality and importantly security.

The great news is you don’t have to do anything. As automatic updates are enabled on UniSA computers, new updates will automatically download and prompt customers to install when they are available, so you don’t have to think about it.

Customers are given 30 days to apply these major updates before they are enforced. For the first 30 days you will be able to choose a convenient time for the update to occur. After 30 days the update will proceed, there will be no option to stop the update as it will simply run.

While this is a major update it’s the same as current regular windows updates you are used to seeing every month.

When & What?

During 2021, the major update for windows 10 will be incrementally released to those computers identified as requiring it. Like all regular windows updates customers will be prompted to install the update. Customers are given 30 days to install, after this it will be enforced.

The update is expected to take around 90 - 180 minutes The time taken will be dependent on the computer you are using (how powerful it is). We recommend applying updates at the end of the day prior to leaving work, outside of your normal working hours.
