General use of NEC telephones

Offices and Teaching Spaces

University offices and teaching spaces are equipped with either NEC ITL-6DE or ITL-24D handsets. These digital (IP) handsets are easy-to-use and reliable, and are capable of performing a variety of functions including voicemail, call forward, speed-dial, hands-free, and teleconferencing.

How do I place a call on hold? Or take a call off hold?

While on a call, press the Hold button.

To retrieve the call, press flashing Line.

How do I transfer a call?

  1. While on a call, press Transfer
  2. Dial the number
    NOTE: Remember to start with a zero for external or mobile numbers.
  3. Either immediately hang up the call; OR
    Speak to the person who answers the telephone and then hang up

How do I dial an international number?

  • Dial 0 - to get an outside line
  • Dial 0011 - to get international line
  • Dial Country Code - e.g. Australia is 61
    NOTE: If your not sure of the country code do a Google search: How do I dial <desired country> from Australia?
  • Dial remainder of number
    NOTE: Your NEC telephone display will show: 0 0011 <country code> <desired landline or mobile>

How do I change the ring tone?

  1. Press Menu
  2. Press Up to highlight Setting
  3. Press OK
  4. Press OK while on User Setting
  5. Press OK while on Incoming Call
  6. Press Down to highlight Ring Tone
  7. Press OK
  8. Press OK while on External Call; OR
    Press Down to highlight Internal Call and press OK
  9. Press Down or Up to highlight the desired ring tone
    NOTE: The telephone will play the ring tones as you move down and up.
  10. Press OK
  11. Press Exit

While the phone is ringing, press Up or Down

How do I dial a previously called number?

  1. Press Redial until the desired number is displayed
    NOTE: Redial cycles through the last 5 numbers you dialled.
  2. Press #

  1. Pick up the handset
  2. Press Pick
  3. You will be connected to the caller
