Applying for Academic promotion - Applying for Levels B & C
(Enterprising Women's Development Program)

Presenters: Paula Geldens, Executive Dean: UniSA Justice and Society, Shylie Mackintosh, Executive Dean: UniSA Allied Health & Human Performance and academic women peers who have been through the process in the last two years
Target group: Academic women (Levels A – B)
Date: Thursday 20 April
Time: 3.00pm - 4.30pm (1.5 hours)
Location: Virtual workshop (you will receive a separate email with your Zoom registration instructions)

This workshop is part of our commitment to gender equity and is run under the remit of the Enterprising Women’s Development Program. It is designed to support women applying for academic promotion to Levels B and C. This session will provide an opportunity to hear from senior women who are members of the promotion panels and from peers who have been through the process in the last two years to understand what to consider and how to turn thoughts of applying for academic promotion into action.

Learning outcomes:

  • Recall what to include in a good application
  • Identify what you need to be thinking about when preparing your case for promotion
  • Recognise practical strategies to consider and/or do when deciding if you want to apply.

Applying for Senior Academic promotion - Applying for Levels D & E

This workshop is part of our commitment to gender equity and is run under the remit of the Enterprising Women’s Development Program. It is designed to support senior women applying for academic promotion to Levels D and E. An information, overview and Q&A session to provide academics thinking about applying for promotion at UniSA with practical advice.

It will give you the opportunity to hear from the Executive Deans about what you need to prepare when considering applying and what they want to see in a good application for academic promotion. There will be an opportunity for you to directly ask them questions via the chat function. This session interconnects with the Applying for Academic Promotion - information, overview & Q&A with Senior Assessment Panel and the other suites of academic promotion development opportunities.

Academic promotion - How to find and use data to support your research case and navigating an ASAR

Presenters: Marnie Hughes-Warrington, Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research and Enterprise and representatives from the Business Intelligence and Planning Unit (BIP) and the Library

This session will help you understand and navigate around the components of your academic staff activity report (ASAR) and then look at where you can find other validated data on the BI Hub and the Library websites to use when preparing your application for academic promotion with a focus on the research and related engagement aspects. This session is research focused and interconnects with the one on preparing your teaching case for promotion.

Learning outcomes:

  • Recall how to navigate the BI-Hub and Library websites
  • Identify data that supports your application for promotion
  • Interpret and update your ASAR

This session will enable you to hear from a panel of peers who have been through the process in the past few years (including colleagues who navigated re-applying after not being successful the first time around). This session will help you understand where you can find and create validated data to use when preparing your application for academic promotion with a focus on the teaching and related engagement aspects. This session is teaching & learning focused and interconnects with the one on How to find and use data to support your research case and navigating an ASAR and specific workshops run by the Teaching Innovation Unit (TIU) on your summative peer review of teaching (SPRT)

Learning outcomes:

  • Recall how to navigate relevant websites and data sources such as BI-Hub & Teaching Innovation Unit (TIU)
  • Identify data and evidence that supports your teaching application for promotion including ‘scholarship of teaching research’
  • Determine the next steps in crafting your narrative and case for promotion.
