FIRST MEETING GUIDE

  • Introduce yourselves
  • Provide background - your work history / academic history
  • Discuss the mentee's goals for the program
  • Review the Mentoring Plan on page 10 of the Guidebook
    • Record goals and areas of focus
    • Possible activities
    • Establish meeting cancellation or rescheduling guidelines
    • Exchange and record preferred contact details
  • Plan next meeting and topic

PROGRAM GUIDE - A SUGGESTED STRUCTURE

Meeting 1

  • Follow the first meeting checklist
  • Review and prioritise the goals and select two to focus on
  • Determine some structures and milestones for the program eg; after each meeting there will be some research/activity/investigation in line with a goal and feedback to be prepared for the next meeting

Meeting 2

  • Work on prioritised goals
  • Review the suggested activities link for mentees to action their goals
  • Refer to the monthly newsletters for development opportunities

Meeting 3

  • How are you tracking?
  • Are the goals still the same?
  • Have the priorities changed?
  • Has the suggested actions for the goals been successful in skill development?
  • What are you aiming to achieve for the rest of the program?

Meeting 4 & 5

  • Continue as suggested for meetings 2 and 3

Meeting 6

  • Complete the end of program feedback forms
  • Discuss where you started and where you have ended
  • What have you achieved?
  • What worked well and what could have been improved?
  • What further action could be taken
  • Are you going to remain in contact?
