It's National Student Volunteer Week! Check out everything that's happening on campus...

National Student Volunteer Week

National Student Volunteer Week is a week of celebration for our student volunteers.

It's the perfect time to challenge and change the way you volunteer – can you be even more creative and genuine in your help and care for others?

There are plenty of reasons why you should volunteer during your studies, here’s just five!
  1. Having fun!
Experience things you normally wouldn’t and get to know people of great variety.

  2. Standing out!
Today’s job market is very competitive. Show that you can manage your studies and additional work effectively, and are interested in other things.

  3. Getting out!
Tired of the library and the lecture room? Volunteering can help you explore the local community outside of your campus’ walls.

  4. Gaining skills!
Prepare for your future with skills like project management, fundraising, health and safety, problem solving and so many more! You can develop all of these during volunteer projects.

  5. Giving back!
Most students volunteer just because they want to make a difference. What better way to spend your time than improving other people’s day? You definitely won’t regret it!
You can find the perfect volunteering opportunity for you using our search engine, Volunteer Connect.

Let's Celebrate Our Awesome Volunteers

Did you know that more than 3000 hours of volunteering have already been registered through UniSA+ this year? That’s an average of over 46 hours per participant. And, over 128 students have volunteered for over 250 different opportunities in the community using our new Volunteer Connect search engine!

Thank you so much to those students who volunteer – congratulations on being the change you want to see in the world. Stay in touch with our Volunteering and Community Engagement Facebook Page.

Community Sleepout

More than 116,000 Australians find themselves homeless each night of the year.

On the night of Friday 7 September, UniSA will be hosting a community sleepout in Høj Plaza at City West Campus, to raise funds to support Vinnies's homeless services in South Australia.

Homelessness is a growing problem, more people than ever are turning to Vinnies for help. With your support they can continue to provide a hand up, not just a handout to assist thousands of homeless people every night.

Register now via Eventbrite, and then start fundraising (or just donate!) here.

Attendance at the UniSA Community Sleepout will be recognised under the Global Engagement pillar of UniSA+

Get SCOUT-ed to a startup at the 2018 networking event!

SCOUT 2018 aims to showcase UniSA students and connect them with innovative startup companies that are looking to hire university talent.

Meet face-to-face with potential employers, and start securing either volunteering, work-experience, internship or full-time paid employment.

Each company will make a two-minute pitch outlining the vision and values of their startup, and explaining the skills they are looking for e.g. software developer, marketing or business analytics etc.

Following the pitches, students and startups can connect at an ‘information table’ and discuss the available opportunities further. Students are asked to come prepared with business cards and resumes.

Attendance at the SCOUT 2018 event will be recognised as a Networking Event under the Self-Development Pillar of UniSA+

Respect. Now. Always.

At UniSA we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive campus and strive to foster a respectful working and learning environment that enables you to grow into the best version of you that is possible.

As part of this commitment, we have put in place enhanced support for those who need it and a suite of resources for anyone who may wish to report an incident of sexual assault or sexual harassment. This includes the newly created Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment website.

If you have been subjected to sexual assault or sexual harassment, you may be faced with a number of decisions. The website provides some of the options you may wish to consider, so that you can decide how you wish to proceed or deal with an incident of sexual assault or sexual harassment. This includes:
  • Emergency Help – who to contact in the case of an emergency or if you need urgent medical help.
  • Deciding what to do next – information to help you decide what you would like to next, including talking to someone, disclosing or reporting an incident to UniSA or the police.
  • Getting support –  information to help you find the support that is right for you, including counselling and other health services.
  • Providing support – guidelines for providing initial assistance and support to someone who tells you they have been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed.
Whatever you decide to do, you do not have to go through this alone. There are many support services available to you. Please visit the Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment website for more detailed information.
