Welcome to the Wellbeing Edition!

In this edition we're focusing on the month of May as a great time to cultivate and inspire the health and wellbeing of UniSA’s community, as we count down to another UniTopia wellbeing event.

Mindfulness means learning to focus our mind on this moment, the now rather than on the past or the future. It's about becoming tuned in to the present moment and consciously choosing to focus our attention and intention on this to nurture our health and wellbeing. Become part of UniSA’s Mindful in May campaign by learning more about how mindfulness can help you to cope with stress so you can enjoy life and uni more.

We also encourage students to check out our Healthy Mind webpage  for tips on how to stay healthy and well at UniSA. Keep your mind healthy by accessing free and confidential counselling at uni available to all students, or make an appointment with UniSA’s medical and health clinic to discuss your mental health or to develop a mental health care plan with a qualified General Practitioner.

We’re also proud to promote a new mobile app ‘My Coping Plan’ developed by UniSA’s academic and Wellbeing researcher Dr Helen Stallman with external collaborators. The new app enables a person to develop a coping plan with healthy strategies that is easily accessible and user-friendly. It supports people to stick to the strategies they have committed to. The coping plan is organised in the following helpful categories; Calming down; Things I can do on my own; People I can spend time with; People I can talk with and Professionals who support me.

‘My Coping Plan’ is now available for free download from the Apple Store or Google Play.

Introduction to Mindfulness Workshop

Being a student can be highly stressful. Some stress can enhance your performance but too much stress can have a detrimental impact on your academic performance and wellbeing. There’s a growing body of empirical evidence showing that it is measurably effective. Have a look at what UniSA students have said about mindfulness and how it has helped then to improve their wellbeing and study.

If you're curious or want to learn more there will be a free  Introduction to Mindfulness workshop offered at City West campus on Friday 18 May. Check out the flyer for more information. In the meantime, if you are after some tips for managing stress, watch this video to find out what the single most important thing you can do is.
