Are you ready to get UP CLOSE?
|
|
UP CLOSE is an exploration of a spectrum of closeness. Starting inside our bodies, we consider touch and relationships with people and machines, before spanning out to the way we move through place and space.
This exhibition straddles the real world and online divide. Most of the exhibits are ready and waiting online for you to view, but there are some in the galleries at MOD. and some that you can participate in wherever you find yourself.
The exhibition will run from August 2021 to January 2022.

Prepare for summer with our wet N wild Get Wanderlost experience

|
The weather may be warming up, but this Get Wanderlost experience will cool you down!
As usual, your destination and activities will remain a mystery for you to discover on the day. All you need to do is register for your spot for $15, meet us at City West campus, bring an open mind, and be ready to Get Wanderlost!
Here’s your clue for this one: Learn what a palindrome is and catch some rays (or dodgem) as you look over Gulf St Vincent. You’ll also get to hang out with a little donkey and get wet N wild! |

Support Declan’s Mullet for Mental Health
|
|
1 in 5 of us will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year, and in Australia that’s about 5 million people. Roughly 60% of these people won’t seek any support. So, for the month of September, Whyalla student Declan will be sporting a mullet in his campaign to raise funds for mental health research with the Black Dog Institute.
Come along to his event at Whyalla campus to show your support, or you can donate at the link below. Food, drinks and music vibes will all be sorted – see you there! |

Study tips to get you through the semester
|
|
It’s already September, which means many of you will be gearing up for your major assessments and exams. Our Study Help PALS (SHPs) have got you covered with some top tips!
Create a daily planner Keep track of daily uni tasks by listing down your tasks for the day! If you break them down into more achievable tasks, tick them off as you go to keep yourself motivated and to help you finish your uni tasks on time.
Try to use your time well Take
advantage of breaks throughout your day to study. For example, if you have a work break or arrive early to class, whip out your notes and do some revision. This can save you from having to spend all night sitting at a desk studying later!
Take notes during lectures Save time revising for assessments by writing notes during your lectures. This way, you have a record of all the key points, and you will not have to go back and re-watch hours of lecture material just before your exams and major assessments.
Access UniSA study support services UniSA
has a range of helpful study resources. SHPs are student volunteers who can help answer your study questions and show you a range of great resources to help you in your studies.

Help create a safer campus community
|
|
The independent National Student Safety Survey (NSS) is out now. The purpose of the survey is to help shape the University to address and respond to sexual violence, by hearing from a range of students from diverse backgrounds and modes of study. If you’ve been randomly selected, you’ll be contacted via email, so make sure to keep an eye out for it and have your say. If you aren’t selected via email, have your say via the National Student Safety Survey website.
If you or someone you know is impacted by sexual assault, domestic or family abuse, call 1800RESPECT (1800
737 732) or visit 1800RESPECT.org.au. In an emergency, call 000. Men can also access anonymous confidential telephone counselling to help stop using violent and controlling behaviour through the Men’s Referral Service on 1300 766 491.

Alumnus on a quest to conserve Indonesia’s most precious Botanic Garden plants
|
|
Heri Apriyanto grew up in a small village in Eastern Lampung Indonesia, which was on the edge of the Way Kambas National Park conservation area. There, his group of friends played in the forests and rice fields, right near Sumatran elephants, rhinos and tigers. Heri eventually became a boy scout and would camp in forests, which is where he found his love for nature and conservation.
During
his schooling, he was encouraged by his friend to explore the world of IT, and he became passionate about computer software and the endless possibilities technology posed. Eventually, he was able to combine his love for the environment with a degree in IT Project Management and Software Development at UniSA.
At UniSA, Heri began his plans to develop a system which could manage and record plant collections in Indonesian botanical gardens to help conserve them and prevent extinction. As of June 2021, Heri and his team have soft launched the easy-to-use front-end interface and implemented an education program to encourage students to learn more about plants.
To this day Heri remains committed to innovating his plant collection management system, “I
believe that IT can be a solution to address all issues in the plants conservation sector. IT can help my country to protect our biodiversity. Today, the IT sector not only is a tool in people’s personal life, but also a solution for so many of our problems in this world.” |
