UniSA’s ‘Bone Cage’ production exploring views on domestic violence
Come along to see a new theatre production ‘Bone Cage’, set to explore the complex challenges and choices faced by people experiencing domestic violence. Bone Cage is a stark, surreal depiction of the challenges facing a woman trapped in an abusive relationship and is written to spark discussion and thought, and even includes a post-show workshop where you’ll get to discuss what home, freedom and responsibilities mean to you.

Led by UniSA theatre academic and director, Dr Corinna Di Niro, the theatre production aims to confront and break down domestic violence misconceptions, using live theatre and immersive creative techniques to help people understand the complex, often contradictory choices and challenges faced by domestic and family violence survivors.

“There are usually no simple answers for someone experiencing domestic violence, no safe alternative or ‘way out’, but this can be very difficult for outside observers to understand,” Dr Di Niro says. “This production is a way to help audiences experience that complexity, to see the situation from the inside, and in doing so, hopefully develop a more supportive perspective on the situation.”

The production will be performed on a variety of dates at UniSA’s Hartley Playhouse Theatre at Magill Campus, as part of the Fringe Festival in February 2022. Tickets go on sale Thursday 2 December, so make sure to keep your eye out.
