Student tips: Being more inclusive
Elijah Hartshorne is a Bachelor of Creative Industries student who is a queer trans man with a regional background. In addition to being the Treasurer for the University of South Australia Rainbow Club, he is also one of UniSA Allies.

"I am an Ally because I believe it is important for Allies to be diverse in their representation. It is important that I use my voice for folks that are unable to."

Here are some of Elijah's tips on how to be more inclusive in your allyship.
Always use gender-neutral language when referring to people, such as folks, y’all, everyone, friends, etc.
Don’t assume someone’s gender. If you are unsure about what pronouns a person uses, feel free to ask “What are your pronouns?”.
If you’re organising an event, make sure that the venue is queer-friendly and wheelchair accessible. Feel free to ask around and see what queer people’s experiences with the venue have been.
Keep learning! There are so many queer and gender-diverse content creators with various lived experience who love to share their stories.
If you have any questions around gender and sexual diversity or need some peer support on these matters, you can contact Elijah or other UniSA Allies who are part of the UniSA Ally Network.
