Iftar Dinner: Breaking fast with UniSA
Join us for a memorable evening with a sumptuous dinner to mark the special occasion of breaking the Ramadan fast. The event is about sharing the beautiful Muslim practice with all students and staff, including those practicing Ramadan and those who are not.

Meet us at Høj Plaza, City West, where we will consume the symbolic date with water to signify breaking fast. There will be separate rooms for those wishing to pray.

All will be Welcomed to Country by Senior Kaurna man Robert Taylor, and then be seated at long, communal tables where a delicious Halal dinner will be enjoyed.

You will hear from UniSA Vice Chancellor, David Lloyd with an official address, followed by Professor Mohamad Abdalla. As well as feasting, there will also be cultural singing, and the night will conclude with delicious desserts and prayer.

We hope to see you there.

Content Warning: Discussion of sexual assault and sexual harassment
On Wednesday 23 March, Universities Australia and the Social Research Centre released the 2021 National Student Safety Survey (NSSS) report. Please visit their website to read the national report. UniSA has also been provided with an overview of some response data for our University, which is available on our website here.

We thank all students who participated in this survey, and especially acknowledge the lived experience of students who have been subjected to sexual assault and sexual harassment.

Please note: The reports contain discussions of sexual assault and sexual harassment which may be difficult, distressing and upsetting to read. If you would like to speak to someone for support or information in relation to these issues, help and support is always available, both within and outside of UniSA. Some of the services available include:

UniSA Counselling Service: Free and confidential professional counselling for students. The Counselling Service is open Monday-Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm and you can book an appointment online or by phone. We also have an out-of-hours crisis line which you can call outside of those hours: call 1300 107 441 or text 0488 884 163.

1800RESPECT: The national sexual assault, family, and domestic violence counselling service. Information and support is available 24 hours, 7 days a week on 1800 737 732 or visit 1800respect.org.au

QLife: An anonymous and free peer support and referral service for the LGBTIQ+ community, call on 1800 184 527 between 3pm-midnight every day or visit qlife.org.au.

MensLine Australia: A telephone and online counselling service for men with emotional health and relationship concerns, including issues of violence, call on 1300 78 99 78 or visit mensline.org.au

For further information about support options, please see here. If you would like to disclose or report an incident of sexual assault or sexual harassment to UniSA, please see here for more information.

UniSA is committed to creating a safer community for all students and staff. We will take time to reflect on the results of the NSSS and consult with students and staff to improve our prevention programs, support services, and response processes. The Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (SASH) Steering Group, made up of senior staff and student representatives, will meet in April to discuss the national report and feedback to the UniSA community on our plans. For more information about the work we are doing in this space, please see our website here.
