As we celebrate Pride Month, it's important to recognise the diverse stories within the rainbow community. One of these stories belongs to Chris, a UniSA staff member who is proud to share his journey of self-discovery, love and resilience.
"My name is Chris, I am a gay man and Manager: Student Life at UniSA.
Coming of age in the '90s and early '00s wasn’t always easy for me, I was learning to navigate adulthood at the same time as coming to terms with my sexuality. But as the years went on, I came to accept who I was and, in return, others did too.
I
have a circle of friends who love me, two amazing children whom I adore, a wonderful relationship with their mother (my best friend), and work with an incredible team. I was also lucky to have two parents and a brother who embraced my sexuality, I know not everyone is so fortunate.
If I were to give advice to my younger self it would be that things will get better and to love and embrace who you are. It’s Pride Month, so be proud. Proud of yourself and proud of your peers in the LGBTQI+ community."
Chris is one of many UniSA staff and student allies who make up the UniSA Ally Network, a voluntary group of safe and non-judgemental contacts in support of our rainbow community. If you’d like to speak with a UniSA Ally, you can find a full list of them on the UniSA Ally Network website.

UniSA students paddle to world championships in canoe polo
|
|
The spotlight is on Australia's canoe polo teams as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 ICF Canoe Polo World Championships in China.
Among the athletes to compete are UniSA students Alex Trewartha, Fred Sands and Will Polley. All three are part of the UniSA Sport Athlete Development Program and exemplify immense dedication as they balance their study with intense training schedules.
Having showcased their skills in the U21 Oceania Canoe Polo Championships last year, Alex, Fred and Will now aim to make their mark on the full international stage in October 2024. |

Adelaide University prepares to take flight
|
|
Adelaide University has received the necessary registration from the Commonwealth as a new Australian University higher education provider. This is a very important step as we prepare to launch in market from mid-year.
Through our international student recruitment activities starting in July, we will be unveiling the new Adelaide University brand. This will see us leaning into our legacies, while becoming an unparalleled force for future generations of contemporary learners and talented researchers. And we are excited to share this with you!
The
Adelaide University website will also go live, and as part of this, we will be releasing a selection of programs to support international student recruitment and admissions (pending further regulatory approvals). The full suite of Adelaide University program offerings will progressively follow ahead of future domestic student recruitment activities towards the end of this year.
It’s important to remember that this does not impact your studies, and the University of South Australia will continue to operate as it currently does. We will be working closely with students to ensure you are highly supported in your transition to the new university, in your existing or an equivalent program, ready to study at Adelaide University in 2026.

Get set for exam season with PASS SWOTVAC sessions
|
|
Need support to prepare for your exams? Our Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) are here to help during SWOTVAC. Led by students who have excelled in the course, these sessions will support you to review the course material, guide you through practice questions and provide you with valuable tips to tackle your exams with confidence!
Check out the full schedule of online and on-campus SWOTVAC sessions and come along to one (or more) of the sessions available before 15 June. |

Position yourself for success with exam adjustments
|
|
If you feel you’re in need of additional support for exams, you may be eligible for exam adjustments.
While the deadline has passed for SP2, you can prepare early and contact UniSA Access and Inclusion for an Access Plan to get exam adjustments for next semester. There are also academic adjustments available for assignments, in-class tests and more. |
