Help us raise funds for homelessness at Vinnies Sleepout
Join us on 21 August for the Vinnies Community Sleepout at City East campus, as students and staff from UniSA and the University of Adelaide come together to raise important funds for the most vulnerable members of our local community.

Homelessness is a growing problem – more than 7000 South Australians experience homelessness each year and 60% of the homeless population is under the age of 35. Vinnies provides vital access to food, clothing and financial assistance to locals in their time of need, and your support will make a big difference in their lives.

So we call on you to get involved, start your fundraiser, and swap your bed and home-cooked meal for one night under the stars. You’ll hear empowering stories, connect with fellow students, and stand in solidarity with those doing it tough every day.

Adelaide University announces Aboriginal name
We are proud to announce that Adelaide University has been bestowed the Kaurna name Tirkangkaku, meaning Place of Learning.

Adelaide University is the first university in Australia to have provision for an Aboriginal name in its founding legislation, signifying our commitment to integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledges and ways of doing across our learning, teaching and research.

AU Deputy Vice Chancellor: Indigenous, Professor Steve Larkin, says the name emerged through deep consultation with Elders, academics, and the community, and as a gift from the Kaurna People, Tirkangkaku connects Adelaide University to more than 65,000 years of continuous knowledge and discovery.

To launch Tirkangkaku, a roaming ‘place’ will travel between our metro campuses from July to September. In this installation, the Aboriginal name has been woven with native florals, greenery and netting integrated by Kaurna, Narungga and Kokatha artist, Clem Newchurch. Clem works with South Australian native resources to recreate contemporary art pieces inspired by his Ancestors and used a Kaurna style weaving to create string used for making nets, fishing lines or binding spear tips.

You can experience this installation across the following dates and locations:
Mawson Lakes: Monday 11 August – Friday 15 August, Library (C Building)
Magill: Thursday 28 August – Thursday 4 September, Student Lounge (A Building)

The Men's Table – Breaking barriers for meaningful conversations
For many men, it can be hard to open up about their feelings to their friends and family without worrying what they might think or how they might react to the situation, so it might feel easier to just keep it to themselves.

At The Men's Table at UniSA, you can have open, honest conversations about things going on in your life, if and when you feel comfortable in sharing. Whatever it is you want to talk about, the men at your Table are there to listen. No pressure. No judgement. No opinions.

Keen to be part of the group? Come along to an Entrée and learn more about The Men's Table to see if it’s for you.

City West: Tuesday 12 August, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Mawson Lakes: Wednesday 13 August, 3:00pm – 5:00pm

"The Men's Table has been a great place to talk privately about anything that is going on in my life without any form of judgement. It's also been a great way to build my communication skills and ask for some life advice." Dylan
