Destination Australia Scholarship 

The Destination Australia scholarship encourages students from outside the Mt Gambier and Whyalla regions to complete their study at one of the regional campuses. It is offered to commencing undergraduate students studying Nursing, Social Work, Early Childhood Education or Primary Education. The scholarship is designed to offer students an opportunity to undertake high quality education and increase awareness of the benefits of living, studying and working in regional Australia.

The scholarship is available to students who reside in the campus region, who are enrolled full-time and commencing a designated undergraduate degree for the first time.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70 or above (inclusive of adjustment factors) or equivalent and be able to demonstrate that they will reside in the vicinity of one of the regional campuses.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria 

  • Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Permanent Humanitarian Visa
  • reside in region and study at Mt Gambier or Whyalla 
  • commencing undergraduate student studying Nursing, Social Work, Early Childhood Education or Primary Education 
  • academic merit (ATAR of 70 or above inclusive of any adjustment factors or equivalent) 
  • full-time study load 
  • submission of a written statement 
  • on campus program *

Applicants are required to provide a written statement registering their interest and providing proof of their proposed residential address in the Mt Gambier or Whyalla region.

Scholarships will be awarded based on residential eligibility and ATAR or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).

Successful applicants will be required to: 

  • maintain residency in the regional area * 
  • maintain current enrolment 
  • maintain full-time study 
  • maintain a GPA of 4.5 or above 
  • attend work placement in the region 
  • be willing to act as an ambassador 
  • complete a brief annual written progress report
    * Scholarship recipients enrolled in a campus-based program will be able to study online from any location until on-campus teaching resumes.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement advising:

  • The name of the undergraduate program in which you will enrol
  • The last residential address you lived at in 2019
  • Your proposed residential address in Mt Gambier or Whyalla
  • Your ATAR or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA)

Applications for the Destination Australia scholarship are now open (via my Scholarships) for mid-year entry.
Closing date is 20th of July, 2020.

Value: Up to $15,000 per year for a maximum of four years

Payment will be in two instalments per year:

 - $7,500 (paid after the census date for Study Period 2)
 - $7,500 (paid after the census date for Study Period 5)

 There are 20 scholarships to be awarded in 2020:

 - 10 scholarships to students studying at Mt Gambier campus 
 - 10 scholarships to students studying at Whyalla campus

Preference may be given to students who are relocating from areas outside of the Whyalla or Mt Gambier regions.
