Alkira Burrows Scholarship

The Alkira Burrows Scholarship is available to full time and part time students enrolled in the second year of an undergraduate program who are required as part of program requirements to undertake a placement to gain professional experience.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
• Be a second year student enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate program be enrolled in a program with a requirement to undertake a placement to gain professional experience.
• Be experiencing financial disadvantage and/or have alignment to an equity group including:o Aboriginal students
   o Students from rural / isolated areas
   o Students who are from non-English speaking backgrounds
   o Students who have a disability
• Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5 or above.
• Must not be in receipt of any other scholarships administered by UniSA during the scholarship term, however may be in receipt of grants administered by UniSA.
• Submit a written statement supporting their application (maximum 750 words) detailing:
  o Reasons for studying the program, future career goals and personal aspirations.az
  o Details of financial disadvantage and/or alignment to an equity group and how the scholarship funds would assist.
  o Work experience, community involvement and extracurricular activities/interests details of professional placements to fulfill program requirements.
  o Able to provide evidence of financial disadvantage.
  o Agree to your academic record to be shared with the scholarship panel.

Students demonstrating an interest in a post-graduate career in a rural or remote location will be highly regarded.

Value: up to $20,000
Scholarship recipients will receive the following payments each year for a maximum of 2 years:

 - $2,500.00 after the Study Period 5 2024 census date

The Albert and Barbara Tucker Young Refugee Grant provides encouragement and support for talented, financially disadvantaged students from a refugee background as they embark on their studies. Applicants will be students from a refugee background who are studying any program at UniSA. They can be a commencing UniSA College student, or a commencing undergraduate student.

The grant funds are designed to assist recipients with their living and/or education expenses.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Australian Citizen‚ an Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ Temporary Protection Visa‚ or Bridging Visa
• Refugee background
• Young adult up to the age of twenty-five years (age determined at the time of application)
• Enrolled in a program at UniSA College as a commencing student; or enrolled in an undergraduate program as a first-year student
• Full-time study load
• Submission of a written statement

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• reasons for studying their UniSA program and how the degree supports their future aspirations
• their background prior to UniSA study
• academic achievements
• any financial or educational disadvantage that the applicant wishes to be considered
• how the grant will benefit them

The grant will be awarded based on academic achievement‚ financial disadvantage and information provided in the written statement.

Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend a selection panel interview.

Recipients must not also be in receipt of the Peter and Catherine Williams Refugee Grant.

Annie Roman Young Refugee Grant

The Annie Roman Young Refugee Grant will be awarded to a financially constrained UniSA undergraduate student from a refugee background studying in any area.

The grant honours and remembers Annie Roman (1949-2019) who valued education and wished to make a difference to the lives of refugee students who face cultural, political, and economic factors that affect their ability to access and maintain tertiary education. Annie was a strong, independent, elegant, articulate, and professional woman who had a passion for life and people. She advocated passionately for minority groups and marginalised communities.

The grant is designed to assist recipients with their living and/or education expenses.

Eligibility and selection criteria
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be:

• From a refugee background (Australian Citizen‚ Australian Permanent Resident, Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ Temporary Protection Visa‚ Bridging Visa).
• A young adult up to the age of twenty-five years (age determined at the time of application).
• An undergraduate student (open to all disciplines).
• A commencing or continuing student.
• A full-time or part-time student.
• Experiencing financial or educational disadvantage.

Academically, applicants must have achieved these thresholds:
• Commencing student – Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70.0 (inclusive of any adjustment factor).
• Continuing student – cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (500-750 words) detailing:

• Status as a person from a refugee background.
• Reasons for studying their current program and how the degree supports their future aspirations.
• Details of any financial or educational disadvantage they would like considered.
• How the grant funds will benefit them and their study.
• Work experience, community involvement and/or extracurricular activities.
• Academic achievements including ATAR or GPA.

Applicants will need to demonstrate financial hardship to apply for the grant. This can be done by providing evidence of current receipt of a Health Care Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit e.g. Austudy, Youth Allowance. Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Assessment Form to support their application.

The grant will be awarded based on financial and/or educational disadvantage, academic achievement‚
and information provided in the written statement.

Shortlisted applicants are not required to attend an interview.

The Australian Muslim Academic Scholarship (AMAS) Program

The Islamic Museum of Australia’s Patrons have announced new scholarship opportunity for Australian Muslim students.

The Australian Muslim Academic Scholarship (AMAS) Program is a partnership between the Islamic Museum of Australia and 5 universities across Australia including:

1. La Trobe University,
2. University of South Australia,
3. Edith Cowan University,
4. Western Sydney University
5. University of Queensland.

The aim of AMAS program is to provide development opportunities for future Islamic leaders across Australia, ensuring gender equality and equal opportunity to all.

This program will support Year 12 graduates with high academic merits and/or young working professionals with leadership qualities to obtain graduate and/or postgraduate qualifications through one of our preferred university partners.

The Australian Muslim Academic Scholarship (AMAS) Program

Barefoot to Boots Refugee Grant

Ian Smith AM, Chairman and Director of Barefoot to Boots, established this Grant in 2020.  Barefoot to Boots is an Australian-based private sector NGO that supports refugees living in camps and their neighbouring host communities. 

The Barefoot to Boots Refugee Grant provides encouragement and support for talented, financially disadvantaged students from a refugee background as they embark on their studies. Applicants will be students from a refugee background who are studying any program at UniSA. They can be a commencing UniSA College student, or a commencing undergraduate student.

The grant funds are designed to assist recipients with their living and/or education expenses.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Australian Citizen‚ an Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ Temporary Protection Visa‚ or Bridging Visa.

The Brake Family Refugee Grant

The Brake Family Refugee Grant is available to refugees who are studying a UniSA bachelors degree.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Australian Citizen‚ an Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ Temporary Protection Visa‚ or Bridging Visa.
• Refugee background.
• Enrolled in an undergraduate program.
• Enrolled on-campus at a metropolitan campus.
• Full-time and part-time study load.
• Submission of a written statement.

Each grant is valued at $4,000, to be paid in a lump sum.

Applicants must provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Status as a person from a refugee background
• academic achievements
• future career goals
• any financial or educational disadvantage or circumstances they would like taken into account

BUPA UniSA International Student Grant

The BUPA grant is available to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework international students who are enrolled internally and full-time in any program at the University of South Australia.

Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated academic and extracurricular excellence. To be eligible, applicants must have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.5 or above. Extracurricular excellence will be evaluated on the applicant’s engagement in activities that support their student peers and/or others in the community.

Applicants are required to provide the following:

• a written statement (250 words maximum) outlining:
  • their academic achievements
  • extracurricular excellence
  • how this grant will benefit them and their studies.
• a letter of reference (150 words maximum) that confirms their participation in extracurricular activities and their impact.

Value: recipients will receive a one-off payment of $5,000

Collier Regional Student Support Grant

The Collier Regional Student Support Grant is available to commencing and continuing undergraduate and UniSA College students attached to a UniSA regional campus (Whyalla or Mount Gambier) or other regional location operated by UniSA (e.g. Ceduna, Port Lincoln). Eligibility extends to students studying at a regional campus/location though they may be enrolled in degrees or qualifications that do not have a Whyalla or Mount Gambier SATAC code.

To be eligible for this grant, applicants must:

• Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa.
• Have full-time or part-time enrolment.
• Be attached to a UniSA regional campus (Whyalla or Mount Gambier) or other regional location operated by UniSA (e.g. Ceduna, Port Lincoln).
• Be able to clearly demonstrate financial and/or educational disadvantage.
• Provide a written statement addressing the points listed below.

Applicants will need to demonstrate financial hardship to apply for the grant. This can be done by providing evidence of current receipt of a Health Care Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit(s) e.g. Abstudy, Austudy, Youth Allowance, etc. Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Assessment Form, to support their application.

Preference may be given to students who indicate they travel a considerable distance on a daily or weekly basis to attend a regional campus or place of study.

Applicants must provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Reasons for studying their UniSA Whyalla or Mount Gambier program, or UniSA College qualification.
• Future career goals and personal aspirations.
• Local community involvement and/or extracurricular activities.
• Circumstances relating to financial and/or educational disadvantage and how the grant funds will be used to overcome financial constraints.
• Academic achievements (including ATAR if available or current Grade Point Average).

The grant will be awarded based on financial/educational disadvantage and a written statement outlining why the applicant would be a worthy grant recipient.

Cowan Ability Grant

Grants are available to assist students who have disabilities to manage the additional expenses associated with studying with disabilities. Many students with disabilities require additional equipment; increased travel expenses and limited ability to earn additional income whilst studying.

The Cowan Ability Grant targets students who have successfully completed a year of study (equivalent to 27 units). This has been identified as a time when students are often struggling with the financial cost associated with continuing their study.

Applicants for the Cowan Ability Grant are required to provide a short statement (maximum 500 words) detailing how their disability impacts on ability to study and how they would use the grant to assist their studies.

The grant recipient must demonstrate satisfactory academic performance and should maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5 or above.

Preference may be given to recent school leavers who have completed high school within two years of commencing their current university program.

Please note that previous recipients of a Cowan Ability Grant are not eligible.

Cowan International Placement Grant

The Cowan International Placement Grant is available to students who are studying full-time at the University of South Australia, and are undertaking a professional experience placement in an overseas location as part of their program.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate evidence of financial disadvantage and provide a written statement detailing the location and duration of their placement and their future career goals. Placements must be for a minimum of two consecutive weeks in length and preference will be given to applicants who are undertaking a placement in a developing country. Applicants must be undertaking their placement in the year that they apply for the grant.

Please note that the grant will not be awarded retrospectively. Applicants must not have completed their placement prior to the application closing date.

Applicants who in the same year have received another placement grant administered by the University of South Australia are not eligible to apply.

Cowan Regional Grant

Cowan Regional Grants are available to assist commencing students studying full time at the Mt Gambier Campus.

The grants assist students with the costs associated with full time study including study, living and travel expenses. Students must demonstrate financial disadvantage and provide a written statement addressing the grant criteria.

Value: $2,500 Payments are split in two instalments of $1,000 each after the Study Period 2 and 5 census dates provided the recipient continues to meet the grant criteria and maintains satisfactory academic performance. Cowan Regional Refugee Grant

The Cowan Regional Refugee Grant provides encouragement and support for undergraduate or UniSA College students from a refugee background and with a connection to regional South Australia.

The grant is available to students from a refugee background studying full-time or part-time at any year level of an undergraduate or UniSA College program.

Applicants should be:

• Attached to a UniSA regional campus (Whyalla or Mount Gambier) or other regional location operated by UniSA (e.g. Ceduna, Port Lincoln), or
• attached to a UniSA city campus and residing in or have previously resided in a regional South Australian location immediately prior to attending UniSA

The grant is valued at $5,000 and will assist recipients meet the costs associated with their living and/or education expenses.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be:

• A student with a refugee background.
• Enrolled in a UniSA undergraduate or UniSA College program.
• Attached to a regional campus/location, currently residing in a South Australian regional location, or previously resided in a regional South Australian location immediately prior to attending UniSA.
• A full-time or part-time student.
• Experiencing financial disadvantage.
• Submit a written statement.

Applicants will need to demonstrate financial hardship to apply for the grant. This can be done by providing evidence of current receipt of a Health Care Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit(s) e.g. Abstudy, Austudy, Youth Allowance, etc. Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Income Assessment Form, to support their application

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Reasons for studying their UniSA qualification and how the degree supports their future aspirations.
• Their background prior to UniSA study and status as a person from a refugee background (including current residency status).
• Connection to regional South Australia.

Cowan Young Endeavour Grant

The Cowan Young Endeavour Grant is available to students who are enrolled full-time in any undergraduate program at the University of South Australia.

The Young Endeavour is Australia's national sail training ship and a voyage involves 11 days at sea, living and sailing with 23 other youth crew from all over Australia. The Young Endeavour is operated by the Royal Australian Navy and provides a unique professional development opportunity to develop communication, leadership and teamwork skills. Please note that students must be aged between 16 - 23 years to undertake the voyage.

The grant includes a berth on the Young Endeavour and will cover travel expenses.

Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated financial disadvantage, academic merit (GPA) and a personal written statement.

Value: up to $5,500 (The grant does not include a cash payment, the value is calculated on the estimated travel costs and berth hire associated with a voyage aboard the Young Endeavour).

David Pank Northern Areas High Achiever Scholarship

The David Pank Northern Areas High Achiever Scholarship aims to assist financially disadvantaged high achieving students from Northern Area High Schools to study an undergraduate degree at UniSA. The scholarship is available to students from designated High Schools who are new to higher education and enrolled full time in any UniSA undergraduate degree.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have a ATAR of 80 or above and must be able to demonstrate that the majority of their high school attendance has been at one of the following designated Northern Area High Schools (UNAP): Craigmore High School, Fremont Elizabeth High School, Gawler & District B-12 College, Kaurna Plains High School, Parafield Gardens High School, Para Hills High School, Para West Adult Campus, Paralowie R-12, Salisbury High School, Salisbury East High School, Mark Oliphant College.

Applicants must provide evidence of financial hardship and a supporting statement with their application outlining their career and personal aspirations and how the scholarship will assist them in achieving their goals. Details of financial disadvantage should also be included in the written statement.

Students in receipt of another Pank family scholarship, grant or prize are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The scholarship is valued at $2,000 per year and is for a maximum period of 4 years.

• Be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
• Be enrolled full time in an undergraduate degree.

The Dr Rosemary Brooks OAM UniSA Refugee Grant is available to a UniSA undergraduate student from a refugee/asylum seeker background, enrolled in any bachelor’s degree program.

• Australian Citizen‚ an Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa
• Be a student from a refugee background
• Be enrolled in any Bachelor degree program
• Be a full-time (preferred) or part-time student
• Be experiencing financial or educational disadvantage
• Provide a written statement

Applicants must provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:
• status as a person from a refugee background 
• reasons for studying their current program and future career goals
• details of any financial or educational disadvantage they would like considered
• how the funds would benefit them
• work experience, community involvement and/or extracurricular activities

The Finn Family Refugee Study Grant

The Finn Family Refugee Study Grant will be awarded to a student from a refugee background who is commencing study with the University of South Australia for the first time.

The grant is available to students commencing a program of study with UniSA College or an undergraduate degree.

The grant is valued at $1,500 and is designed to assist recipients meet the costs associated with study including textbooks, travel, computing equipment or other related expenses.

Applicants may be an Australian Citizen, a Permanent Resident of Australia, or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa, Temporary Protection Visa, or Bridging Visa.

Applicants would normally be enrolled in full-time study, however part-time applications will be considered with the reason for part-time study clearly outlined in the written statement.

Where a part-time recipient is selected, funds will be awarded pro rata.

Payments will be split in two instalments of $750 after the Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates provided the recipient continues to meet the grant criteria and maintains satisfactory academic performance.

The Flaherty Family Scholarship for Refugee Women is available to a UniSA commencing undergraduate female student from a refugee background.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Australian Citizen‚ an Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa.
• Be a student from a refugee background.
• Be female.
• Be a commencing undergraduate student.
• Be a full-time (preferred) or part-time student.
• Be experiencing financial or educational disadvantage.
• Provide a written statement, year 12 results (ATAR, subjects studies in year 11/12 and grades received) or detail of alternative tertiary entry pathway.

Applicants must provide a written statement (maximum 750 words) detailing:

• Status as a person from a refugee background and current residency status (documentary evidence required).
• Reasons for studying your current program and future career goals.
• Details of any financial or educational disadvantage you would like considered and how the scholarship funds would benefit you (permanent residents should provide the amount of tuition fees they are required to pay upfront each semester).

Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

This scholarship is open to *Aboriginal students of the University of South Australia who are enrolled full time or part-time in any undergraduate program.

Gavin Wanganeen is the first Aboriginal Australian to receive an AFL life membership for playing 300 official matches. He is also a premiership star, Brownlow medallist, five-time All Australian and Best-and-Fairest winner with Port Adelaide Football Club. Gavin Wanganeen is a role model and representative for Aboriginal youth in Australia and UniSA is the first university in Australia which has identified a commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education in its charter.

Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial disadvantage and a personal written statement. The applicant's written statement should outline:

• Reasons for studying their current program.
• Academic achievements.
• Community service involvement.
• Future career goals.

The recipient is required to act as a positive ambassador for the scholarship to encourage support. Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance and the recipient should maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 or above. The Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship (sponsored by the Department of Environment and Water) is open to *Aboriginal students who are enrolled full-time in the final year of an undergraduate or postgraduate program at UniSA.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of a personal written statement and a Curriculum Vitae (CV). The applicant's written statement should outline:

• Reasons for studying their current program.
• Academic achievements.
• Community service involvement.
• Interest and/or experience in working on or advocating for Indigenous care of Country.
• Future career goals.

Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate financial disadvantage and/or academic merit.

Applicants undertaking studies in any of the following areas will be considered favourably:
Environmental Studies; Natural Resources Management; Earth Sciences; Aboriginal Studies; Law; Urban and Regional Planning; Commerce; Tourism; Politics; Management; Economics; Mathematics and Statistics; Engineering; Construction Management.

A condition of the scholarship is that the recipient will participate in up to one week of informal mentoring or in-kind assistance by the Department of Environment and Water and will be given the opportunity to network and build relationships with the Department staff throughout the year. Internships to count towards academic credit can be arranged by request. The recipient must have the ability to be a positive ambassador for the Department.

Applicants displaying an interest in working with DEW in a voluntary capacity for academic merit is encouraged and will be looked on favourably in the selection process.

Applicants must be a resident of South Australia at the time of application and expect to reside in South Australia during the term of the scholarship to satisfy the mentoring and/or in-kind assistance provisions of the scholarship.

Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal Scholarship (sponsored by Haigh's Chocolates)

The Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal Scholarship (sponsored by Haigh's Chocolates) is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at the University of South Australia. This scholarship supports students with a strong desire to succeed and give back to their local communities to complete a university degree.

This scholarship provides the opportunity for recipients to benefit from Haigh’s mentoring and/or work placement opportunities to be negotiated by Haigh’s and the recipients on a case-by-case basis according to their interests and needs.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander descent.
• Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
• Enrolled in an Undergraduate program.
• Grade point average (GPA) of 4 or above.
• Full-time (preferred).
• Willingness to undertake work placement (as agreed between the student and Haigh’s).
• Submission of a written statement.

The scholarship provides the possibility of industry access, mentoring support and paid or unpaid work placement opportunities with Haigh’s based in South Australia.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Your family heritage and your connection to community.
• Reasons for studying your current program and how the degree supports your future aspirations.
• Academic achievements.
• Community service involvement.
• Any financial or educational disadvantage that you wish to be taken into account.
• Willingness to undertake work placement and participate in mentoring / networking - opportunities at Haigh’s.

The selection panel will review shortlisted candidates and select a recipient. Shortlisted applicants will not normally be required to attend an interview but may be asked to attend an interview to assist in the decision-making process.

Preference may be given to students taking programs which align to the key activities of Haigh’s.

Full-time recipients will be given preference. Part-time applicants will be considered where there is a demonstrated need to study part time. Pro-rata payments will apply to part-time enrolment.

If‚ in the view of the selection panel‚ no applicant is sufficiently meritorious‚ no award shall be made.

The grant will be awarded based on academic achievement, relevant skills offered and passion for the program, as demonstrated in the written statement.

George Alexander Foundation UniSA Regional Scholarship

The George Alexander Foundation UniSA Regional Scholarship is available to commencing full-time students from regional Australia who are relocating to Adelaide to pursue an undergraduate program at the University of South Australia. Applicants must have completed year 12 and obtained an ATAR in the two years immediately prior to commencing at UniSA.

The scholarship is a prestigious award recognising talented students who can demonstrate strong academic achievement‚ display active community involvement and leadership skills and/or potential.

Scholarship recipients will receive $24‚000 over three years‚ subject to continued enrolment and satisfactory academic performance‚ including a credit average (GPA 5.0 or above) for the term of the scholarship.

The scholarship assists students from regional locations with the costs of attending university away from home (e.g. accommodation‚ food‚ books‚ computers‚ materials and placement costs)‚ allowing them to devote further time to pursue their academic goals and personal development.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

• Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
• Academic merit – an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 80 or above (inclusive of any adjustment factor). Documentary evidence required of subjects studied during year 12 and ATAR achieved (when ATAR results are available)
• Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and need to move away from home and live in Adelaide in order to undertake the program.
• Commencing student with Year 12 completion in the two years immediately prior to starting at UniSA (applicants must not have previously attended a higher education institution).
• Full-time study load once enrolled at UniSA.
• Resided in a regional Australian locality for at least two years prior to commencing at UniSA.
• Completed the final two years of schooling in a high school or college in a regional Australian area (verification required).

Application

Applicants are required to submit the following:

• Completed application form (application form incorporates the key selection criteria and a values statement)
• Curriculum Vitae
• Evidence of subjects studied during year 12 and ATAR achieved (when ATAR results are available)
• A letter from their school verifying that the applicant completed the final two years of schooling in a high school or college in a regional or remote area.
• Two referee reports:
  1. from a person qualified to comment on academic studies‚ preferably a subject coordinator from the applicant’s secondary school and/or a school principal
  2. from a current or past employer or a person competent to supply a character reference (for example‚ a person with whom the candidate has undertaken community service or volunteer activities)
     
     Note: referees must not be related to the applicant. Examples of a suitable referee could include a school principal‚ workplace manager, religious or community leader. At least one of these must be from a referee not connected to the applicant's secondary school. 

Applications will be accepted from commencing students who completed year 12 in the past two years in a location classified as very remote, remote, outer regional or inner regional according to the Department of Health ASGS remoteness standard.

GO Foundation Aboriginal Scholarship

The GO Foundation was founded by Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin with a focus on educational attainment for Aboriginal students, recognising that education is key to creating a brighter future for Aboriginal Australians.

The GO Foundation Aboriginal Scholarship is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students of the University of South Australia who are enrolled full-time or part-time in any undergraduate program, including students enrolled in online programs.

Applicants must reside in the greater Adelaide region at the time of application. Applicants must be able to attend GO events in the Adelaide CBD and return home on the same day. The scholarship is open to commencing and continuing UniSA students. 

Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

• Financial need (applicants must demonstrate a financial need)
• Aspiration and work ethic (in their academics and other areas of life)
• Cultural identity (an understanding or a desire to understand more about their cultural heritage)
• Desire to give back (applicants should demonstrate how they care about and contribute to the community, family and friends)
• Grade point average or ATAR / STAT (commencing students)

Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a selection panel interview. 

Scholarship recipients will participate in the GO Foundation Culture and Mentoring program.

The recipient is required to act as a positive ambassador for the scholarship to encourage tertiary education participation by other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance. In addition, the recipient should maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 or above.

Hawke / Pearce Family Country Scholarship

This scholarship (formerly known as the Don Hawke Memorial Scholarship) was established via a personal gift from the late Jean Pearce to support commencing students from a financially disadvantaged and rural or isolated background in South Australia (including Whyalla and Mt Gambier), the Northern Territory or Broken Hill. The scholarship aims to support young people who have completed a senior secondary qualification within the last two years and who have gained life experience outside of school.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

• Australian citizens or permanent residents
• Gap year: have had a gap year (minimum of one year‚ no more than two years) between leaving high school and commencing university studies
• Have completed their secondary schooling within two years prior to commencing their UniSA program
• Have received a UniSA offer and deferred their place for no more than two years
• Full-time study load once enrolled at UniSA
• Financial disadvantage
• Commencing at UniSA in the year immediately following applications (applicants must not have previously attended a higher education institution)
• Resided or studied in a regional or rural area of South Australia (including Whyalla and Mt Gambier), the Northern Territory or Broken Hill for at least three of the four years prior to commencing at UniSA.  Applicants who have resided in Whyalla or Mt Gambier will only be eligible for this scholarship if their UniSA program is located at a UniSA campus other than their resided town.

Application requirements

Applicants are required to submit the following:

• Completed application form
• Evidence of their financial disadvantage
• Evidence of subjects studied during year 12 and ATAR achieved
• Two referee statements with at least one statement from a current or past employer or a person competent to supply a character reference regarding work ethic (for example‚ a person with whom the candidate has undertaken community service or volunteer activities)
  Note: referees must not be related to the applicant. Examples of a suitable referee could include a school principal‚ workplace manager, religious or community leader. Applicants are encouraged to share their written statements or the scholarship details including eligibility and selection criteria with their referees to assist in crafting the referee statements.   
• A written statement outlining the following:
  • Their proposed university program and reasons for studying
  • Their career and personal goals
  • How the gap year has helped them
  • Any financial or educational disadvantage they wish to be taken into account
  • Their family background, including parental occupations and household composition (number of family members and number of dependent children)
  • Community involvement and extracurricular activities/interests
  • Details of any previous scholarships or awards they have received

Applications will be assessed on the application material provided with no interview component.

The recipient of the Hawke / Pearce Family Country Scholarship must not be in receipt of any other scholarships administered by UniSA during the scholarship term.

Each scholarship will be valued at up to $25‚000 per annum‚ for the life of the recipient's program (up to 5 years) and will cover fees‚ accommodation‚ living and other expenses relating to the program of study. Disbursement of the scholarship funds will include a stipend payment made to the student for living and other expenses on a fortnightly basis during Study Periods only. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated financial disadvantage‚ a personal written statement and character references.

In order to apply applicants must have already received an offer from UniSA and deferred their study. The frequency that this scholarship is awarded may vary‚ and is at the discretion of the trustees.

The Hazel Family Scholarship

The Hazel Family Scholarship aims to assist commencing students from the western suburbs of Adelaide or Lucindale (SA) to study an undergraduate degree at UniSA. The scholarship is available to students from designated high schools who are new to higher education and enrolled full-time or part-time in any UniSA undergraduate degree.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Permanent Humanitarian Visa
• Academic merit (ATAR of 80 or above inclusive of any adjustment factors)
• Commencing student attending university for the first time
• Final year of secondary studies at one of the following South Australian High Schools:
• Findon High School
• Le Fevre High School
• Seaton High School
• Underdale High School
• Woodville High School 
• Lucindale Area School
• Gap year students are eligible provided the gap does not exceed one calendar year 
• Full-time or part-time study load 
• Submission of a written statement

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• reasons for studying their UniSA program and how the degree supports their aspirations including career goals
• academic achievements including ATAR and subjects undertaken in year 12
• financial and/or educational disadvantages they would like considered
• how the scholarship will allow them to devote further time to pursue their academic goals and personal development
• intended use of funds
• confirmation they attended one of the designated South Australian high schools in the final year of secondary schooling

If‚ in the view of the selection panel‚ no applicant is sufficiently meritorious‚ no award shall be made.

The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant that best demonstrates passion for their UniSA program and clear future goals related to their field of study, as outlined in the written statement.

Recipients can be in receipt of other scholarships and grants administered by UniSA.

Applicants may be required to attend a selection panel interview. 

Value: up to $18,600

Hohborn Refugee Support Grant

The grant will be awarded to a female UniSA undergraduate student from a refugee background who is required to pay tuition fees for their program upfront. The student will typically be classified as a Permanent Resident of Australia; however, eligibility extends to any student from a refugee background who is unable to defer the costs of their program.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be:

• A female student.
• Student from a refugee background.
• Required to pay student contribution or tuition fees upfront.
• An undergraduate student.
• A commencing or continuing student.
• Full-time or part-time student.
• Experiencing financial disadvantage.

Applicants must provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Status as a person from a refugee background and current residency status (documentary evidence also required).
• Reasons for studying their current program and future career goals.
• Details of any financial or educational disadvantage they would like considered, including the amount of tuition fees payable upfront each semester.
• How the grant funds would benefit them.
• Work experience, community involvement and/or extracurricular activities.
• The name of any scholarships or grants currently held (or where an application is pending).

Applicants need to demonstrate financial hardship to apply for the scholarship. This can be done by providing evidence of a current Health Care Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, etc. Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Income Assessment Form to support their application.

International Merit Scholarships

(Please note for ongoing recipients (2020 recipients) the ongoing conditions is unchanged as per offer letter received at the time of being offered the scholarship (25% in the first year of study)).

International Merit Scholarship recipients will receive a 15% reduction in their student contributions (tuition fees) for the duration of their chosen program. Students are automatically assessed for eligibility for a scholarship when applying for an eligible program at UniSA.

The International Merit Scholarship will be awarded to selected international students who meet the following criteria (or as determined by the Selection Panel based on any other factors which the Selection Panel considers to be appropriate and in line with the University’s strategic direction and priorities):

• Be a prospective international student.
• Be eligible to study in Australia.
• Not have accepted any other UniSA scholarship or bursary.
• Meet normal program admission requirements for the program applied into.
• Have achieved the UniSA equivalent of a credit average in previous studies or have an offer conditional upon completion of an award with a credit average.
• Meet the minimum English language entry requirements for the program applied into or have an offer conditional upon meeting the English language entry requirement.
• Will automatically be assessed when applying for an eligible undergraduate (Bachelor) or postgraduate (Masters by Coursework) program offered at UniSA.

International Merit Scholarships are not available to:

1. Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
2. Sponsored students (foreign government or Australian government) where a sponsor agreement has been signed with the University.
3. Research Degree applicants.
4. Current UniSA students.
5. Students who have previously been awarded an International Merit Scholarship except where they are upgrading from an undergraduate to postgraduate qualification.

Scholarship conditions:

• International Merit Scholarship recipients will be required to be enrolled on a full-time basis at UniSA's South Australian campuses.
• Scholarship recipients must maintain a Grade Point Average of at least 4.5 (or equivalent) in order to continue to receive the scholarship payments.
• If awardee’s overall Grade Point Average falls below a 4.5, the 15% reduction will not be applied to the next invoice. If the awardee’s Grade Point Average returns to 4.5 or more, the 15% reduction will recommence and will be applied to the next invoice.
• Scholarship payments (15% of tuition fees) will be provided as a discount on successful applicants' student contribution invoice (tuition fee) at the commencement of each applicable study period.
• As a recipient of the scholarship‚ students are entitled to receive credit/RPL/Advanced Standing towards their program but must have a minimum of 2 years/72 units of study on campus with UniSA.
• The scholarship cannot be deferred beyond date of commencement onshore.

Irene and David Davy Scholarship for Advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education

This scholarship is open to *Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander full time and part time students of the University of South Australia who are, or will be, undertaking the final year of an undergraduate program or an Honours year.

The scholarship is valued at up to $5,000 and is awarded on the basis of academic merit, a written statement, supporting statement from your Program Director/Coordinator or Honours Supervisor or Head of School and community service. The applicant's written statement should outline:

• describe any community service that you have undertaken or intend to undertake in the near future
• describe your family heritage and your connection to community
• name of current program and reasons for studying it
• academic achievements
• future interests and intentions in your professional area after completion of your degree
• reasons for applying for the scholarship

Please note that previous recipients of the Irene & David Davy Scholarship for Advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education are not eligible to re-apply.

Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance and recipients should maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5 or above.

Value: Up to $5,000 available to full-time or part-time students, split in two instalments after the Study Period 2 and 5 census dates. If the study load is part-time for any given semester, recipients receive the pro rata rate (half the full-time rate). Depending upon the stage at which the scholarship is received and progression, the recipient may not receive the full $5,000. Payments are not retrospective.

Where the study load is 13.5 units or above in a semester the recipient will be paid the full-time amount of $2,500; if the study load is less than 13.5 units, the recipient will be paid the part-time rate (pro-rata) of $1,250.

Kemp Family Aboriginal Student Grant

The Kemp Family Aboriginal Student Grant would be available to Aboriginal single parents studying any undergraduate program at any year level at the University of South Australia.

The Grant recognises the financial and time constraints that often impact the ability for single parents to realise their tertiary education ambitions.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

To be eligible for the Grants, applicants must:

• Identify as Australian Aboriginal and be accepted as an Aboriginal person in the community the student belongs to, lives in, or has lived in.
• be a resident of South Australia at the time of application and expect to be in South Australia during the term of the Grant
• Be an undergraduate student (any year level).
• Be a single parent experiencing financial disadvantage.
• Have full-time or part-time enrolment.
• Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5 or above (if a continuing student).
• Provide a written statement clearly addressing the criteria.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• A personal statement providing some background and how they connect to family, culture, community and country.
• Status as a single parent.
• Reasons for studying their UniSA program and future career goals.
• How the grant funds would help achieve these goals.
• Academic achievements (including current cumulative GPA or ATAR).
• Community involvement and/or extracurricular activities/interests.

Applicants must also be able to provide evidence of financial disadvantage, either by providing Centrelink Health Care Card or means-tested benefit. If the applicant is not in Centrelink Health Care Card or means-tested benefit can complete the UniSA Scholarship Assessment Form, to support their application.

The selection panel will review shortlisted candidates and select a recipient.

If‚ in the view of the selection panel‚ no applicant is sufficiently meritorious‚ no award shall be made.

Recipients may be in receipt of another scholarship or grant administered by UniSA.

Kenneth Anesbury First Year Grant

The Kenneth Anesbury First Year Grant assist student experiencing financial hardship from the northern suburbs of Adelaide to study an undergraduate degree at UniSA. The grant is available to students from designated northern suburb areas who are new to higher education and enrolled full-time in any UniSA undergraduate degree.

To be eligible for the grant‚ applicants must have an ATAR of 70 or above (inclusive of adjustment factors) and be able to demonstrate that they lived in northern Adelaide for most of their high school attendance and currently reside in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. The eligible postcode locations are 5106, 5107, 5108, 5109, 5110, 5111, 5112, 5113, 5114, 5115, 5116, 5117, 5118, 5120 and 5121.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

• Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Permanent Humanitarian Visa.
• Lived in an eligible northern Adelaide postcode area for at least three of the last five years of high school attendance and currently reside in an eligible northern Adelaide postcode area.
• Commencing student attending university for the first time.
• Gap year students are eligible provided the gap does not exceed one year.
• Evidence or financial disadvantage.
• Academic merit (ATAR of 70 or above inclusive of any adjustment factors).
• Full-time study load.
• Submission of a written statement.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (250-500 words) outlining:

• Reasons for studying their UniSA program and how the degree supports their aspirations including career goals.
• Financial and/or educational disadvantage (disclosed at the applicant’s discretion).
• How the grant funds will benefit them and their study

Current financial disadvantage is a key component of the selection criteria and applicants should take care to address this aspect in their written statements.

King Family Refugee Support Grant

The King Family Refugee Support Grant will be awarded to a UniSA undergraduate student from a refugee background who is a Permanent Resident of Australia or holds a Permanent Humanitarian Visa (PHV) at the time of application. 

The grant recognises the many cultural, political and economic factors that affect the ability of refugees to access and continue tertiary education.

The grant funds are designed to assist recipients with their living and/or education expenses.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa
• enrolled in an undergraduate program
• commencing or continuing student
• full-time or part-time student
• actively engaged with their study program

Applicants must provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Their background prior to UniSA study.
• Reasons for studying their current program and how the degree supports future career goals.
• Details of any financial or educational disadvantage they would like considered.
• How the grant funds will benefit them.
• Work experience, community involvement and/or extracurricular activities.
• The name of any scholarships or grants currently held (or where an application is pending).
• Proof of residency status.

The grant will be awarded based on the content of the written statement, financial need and demonstrated passion for their field of study.

Kym Adey Catherine House-UniSA Scholarship

The Kym Adey Catherine House-UniSA Scholarship has been established to support women from Catherine House to undertake further education at UniSA or UniSA College. Catherine House provides supported accommodation and emergency housing to women over 21, unaccompanied by children, who are affected by homelessness.

The late Emeritus Professor Kym Adey AM has had a long and distinguished career in higher education and was a former Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President at UniSA. 

Applications are assessed in November/December each year, and shortlisted applicants are invited to attend an interview. The successful applicant will be given a conditional scholarship offer, subject to the recipient's enrolment or continued enrolment in a UniSA program in the following year.

Applicants must be: a participant of the Catherine House Women's Centre, by attending an initial pathways interview with the Education Coach and subsequent fortnightly meetings for a minimum period of four months, which will facilitate the applicant actively working on an education and employment pathway plan. 

Consideration will be given to applicants' involvement in various Catherine House activities and programs such as speaking to school or other stakeholder groups, representing clients in meetings, participating in promotion for Catherine House, and the 1:1 mentoring program.  

Applicants must provide a personal written statement detailing any previous study and their anticipated benefits of undertaking further education at UniSA or UniSA College. Recipients will be selected on the basis of a personal written statement and an interview. Recipients will be required to provide peer support to other clients of Catherine House.

McCleary Murchland UniSA Laptop Grant

The McCleary Murchland UniSA Laptop Grant assists high-achieving students from regional areas or students from a refugee background by providing them with a new laptop to use to undertake their undergraduate studies.

Eligibility and selection criteria:
To be eligible for the laptop grant, applicants must:

• be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or refugee (holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa or similar visa for refugees)
• be able to demonstrate that most of their high school attendance (including year 12) was at a regional or remote Australian high school (this does not apply to students from a refugee background)
• have an ATAR of 90 or above (inclusive of any adjustment factor)
•  be enrolled full-time in an bachelor degree program
• be commencing a program at UniSA for the first time
• submit a written statement

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

•  status as a student from a regional area (completion of most of their high school attendance, including year 12 at a regional high school) or status as a refugee
• reasons for studying their current program and future career goals
• how the laptop grant would benefit them (the need to purchase or upgrade a laptop and obstacles preventing purchase)
• academic achievements (including ATAR)

If, in the view of the selection panel‚ no applicant is sufficiently meritorious‚ no award shall be made.

Ngampa Aboriginal Student Scholarship

The Ngampa Aboriginal Student Scholarship will be available to Aboriginal students enrolled in first or second year of any undergraduate program offered by UniSA.

Applicants must identify as Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted as such in the community the student belongs to, lives in, or has lived in.

Each scholarship is valued at up to $15,000 ($7,500 per year for two years for full-time students)

Applicants will provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Their family heritage and their connection to community.
• Academic achievements.
• Future career goals.
• Any financial or educational disadvantage or circumstances they would like taken into account.

Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance and the recipient should maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 or above.

Value: up to $15,000 payable as $7,500 per year for a maximum of two years.

Peter and Catherine Williams Refugee Grant

The Peter and Catherine Williams Refugee Grant provides encouragement and support for talented, financially disadvantaged students from a refugee background as they embark on their studies. Applicants will be students from a refugee background who are studying at UniSA. They can be a UniSA College student, an Undergraduate student or a Masters student in any course.

The grant funds are designed to assist recipients with their living and/or education expenses.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Australian Citizen‚ an Australian Permanent Resident or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ Temporary Protection Visa‚ or Bridging Visa.
• Refugee background.
• Enrolled in a program at UniSA College as a commencing student; OR enrolled in a undergraduate program as a first year or second year student; OR enrolled in the first year of study of any Master degree program.
• Full-time study load.
• Submission of a written statement.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Reasons for studying your UniSA program and how the degree supports your future aspirations.
• Your background prior to UniSA study.
• Academic achievements.
• Any financial or educational disadvantage that the applicant wishes to be taken into account.

The grant will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement‚ financial disadvantage and information provided in the written statement.

Raytheon Australia VEEP Scholarship

Raytheon Australia is the nation’s leading provider of whole-of-life capabilities for the Australian Defence Force. With an in-country history spanning two decades, they have become a trusted capability partner for Australia’s defence.

UniSA Veterans’ Engagement and Education Program (VEEP) scholarships have been developed to provide an extra layer of encouragement and support for VEEP students to improve capacity to undertake and complete a tertiary degree. 

VEEP is targeted to currently enrolled, domestic UniSA students, who are:

• veterans
• serving or ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members, including reservists
• first responders and/or immediate family members of a veteran, ADF member, or first responder

The Raytheon Australia VEEP Scholarship is available to commencing and continuing students registered with VEEP studying full-time or part-time in a UniSA STEM or UniSA Business undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at the University of South Australia.

Eligibility and selection criteria

• Australian citizen, Australian Permanent resident
• registered VEEP participant
• commencing or continuing student in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program
• full-time or part-time study load
• submission of a written statement
• submission of a Curriculum Vitae

Scholarship recipients cannot be in receipt of more than one scholarship or grant targeted to VEEP registered students.

• community involvement and extracurricular activities/interests
• how the grant funds will benefit them
• any academic achievements and/or academic standing the applicant wish to be considered

Raytheon Australia and individual recipients will discuss and mutually agree any in-kind (non-financial) assistance the company may be willing to offer. Types of in-kind support might include mentoring and the appointment of a mentee and networking opportunities.

Applicants should be studying at an Adelaide campus or in a position to satisfy the engagement requirements of receiving the scholarship.

While academic standing is not a key determinant, Grade Point Average (GPA) for continuing students will be provided to the selection committee and may inform the decision-making process.

Rotary Club of the Barossa Valley Foundation Scholarship

The Rotary Club of the Barossa Valley Foundation Scholarship is available to financially disadvantaged, high achieving, full-time students from the Barossa Valley who are recent school leavers, new to University and are commencing a UniSA undergraduate degree.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they resided in the Barossa Valley/Eden Valley area for the previous five years. Applicants will be asked to submit a personal written statement detailing their ATAR achieved in Year 12, their school activities and responsibilities, and any community involvement they may have undertaken. Details of how the scholarship will assist them while completing their program and with future goals should also be included in the statement. Applicants will also be asked to provide a character reference.

Selection will be based on academic merit, financial disadvantage, and the written statement and reference.

Value: $4,000 which equates to $2,000 per annum for the first two years of the recipient's program to assist with educational costs. The annual amount is payable in two instalments of $1,000 after the Study Period 2 and 5 census dates. Recipients should maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 or above.

Rural Reconnect Grant

These grants are available to students from a rural or isolated area who have relocated to Adelaide to study full-time and are undertaking a professional experience placement in one the following disciplines: Education, Health Sciences, Nursing or Midwifery.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, be financially disadvantaged and have lived in a rural or isolated area for at least four years prior to commencing university. Applicants must be undertaking their placement in a rural area in the year that they apply for the grant.

Please note that the grants will not be awarded retrospectively. Applicants must not have completed their placement prior to the application closing date.

Applicants must provide a personal written statement detailing the location and duration of their rural placement and their future career goals. Preference may be given to applicants who are undertaking a rural placement greater than four consecutive weeks. Applicants who are receiving financial assistance from the University Department of Rural Health are not eligible to apply. Applicants who have previously been in receipt of a Rural Reconnect Grant are not eligible to apply.

Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated financial disadvantage, academic merit (GPA) and a personal written statement. Recipients will also be invited to participate in research and evaluation.

Susan Seymour Student Grant

Susan Seymour inspired her family and friends with her generosity and love. She was a source of compassion and kindness to those who needed help, whether human or non-human. With Susan's example in mind, her two sons Liam and Jaylen and her wider family have been moved to establish this grant in her name. Susan's career was spent in service to the University of South Australia. She loved her work and was dedicated to the University community and to the many students who commenced and completed their studies. Susan's family conceived this grant as a gift to help a first-year student in financial need to enable them to continue their studies at the University of South Australia. The grant embodies Susan's generosity and her commitment to social justice.

The Susan Seymour Student Grant is available to financially constrained commencing students studying any undergraduate program at the University of South Australia. 

There are two grants available each year‚ with a preference to award one of these grants to a social sciences, humanities, or arts student.

The grant recognises that many university students face financial and other hardships while pursuing their dream of attaining a tertiary qualification. 

Eligibility and selection criteria:

To be eligible for the Grants, applicants must:

• be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or refugee (holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or similar visa for refugees)
• be a commencing undergraduate student (any discipline)
• have full-time or part-time enrolment
• provide evidence of financial disadvantage or low income
• provide a written statement clearly addressing the points listed below

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• reasons for studying their UniSA program and future career goals
• details of financial disadvantage and how the grant funds would benefit them and their study
• educational background and any academic achievements (applicants should provide details of secondary schooling including Year 12 results, or details of alternative enrolment pathway)
• work experience, community involvement and/or extracurricular activities/interests
• the name of any scholarships or grants currently held (or where an application is pending)

Applicants need to demonstrate financial disadvantage to apply for the grant. This can be done by providing evidence of current receipt of a Health Care Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit e.g. Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, etc.  Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Income Assessment Form, to support their application. 

Current financial disadvantage is a key component of the selection criteria and applicants are required to address this aspect in their written statements. 

Value: $2,000 (once-off payment after the Study Period 2 census date. Pro-rata payment applies for part-time enrolment.

Ultra Electronics VEEP Grant

• studying at an Adelaide campus or in a position to satisfy the work experience or engagement requirements of receiving the grant

• enrolled in an eligible program at UniSA – disciplines of software development, electronic engineering, or computer science, or a UniSA Business Program
• submission of a written statement
•  submission of a Curriculum Vitae

UniSA Access Scholarship

The UniSA Access Scholarship is available to undergraduate students experiencing financial or educational disadvantage, which includes students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Financial hardship.
• Non-English speaking background.
• Women in non-traditional areas of study (i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
• Students with a disability.
• Regional and remote students.
• Aboriginal students.

The scholarship is available to commencing students and preference may be given to applicants who are attending University for the first time. Applicants may be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Australia.

Students who cannot enrol full-time due to exceptional circumstances‚ for example having a disability or significant carer responsibilities‚ may apply and verify their circumstances during application. 

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Reasons for studying their current program.
• Financial or educational disadvantage.
• Future career goals.
• Evidence of community engagement.
• Academic achievements.
• Ability and willingness to act as a UniSA ambassador e.g. occasional attendance at events, and/or involvement in filming or interviews to document the impact of the scholarship.

To receive the scholarship, applicants must demonstrate a passion for their course, strong motivation to succeed, and have clear future goals.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to provide two character references (at least one of these must be from a referee not connected to the applicant’s secondary school), and attend a selection panel interview.

UniSA Aboriginal Supplementary Grant

The UniSA Aboriginal Supplementary Grant provides financial support to currently enrolled Aboriginal students to support them in their studies. Applicants will be students who are studying an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program, Aboriginal Pathways Program, Foundation studies or Diploma program.

Students who previously received the Aboriginal Supplementary Grant are eligible to apply.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
• Aboriginal student
• Enrolled in a UniSA College, UniSA undergraduate, or UniSA postgraduate coursework program, or UniSA Online Program
• Able to benefit from the grant to support them continue their studies

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of grants available, the grants will be awarded in order of application submission. 

Value: $1,000 minimum paid as a single payment. Final payment amount is to be determined based on the amount of funding approved by the Indigenous Student Success Program Governance Group.

UniSA Elite Athlete Scholarship

As an Elite Athlete Education Network (EAEN) approved university‚ the University of South Australia (UniSA) has a proud history of supporting elite athletes to achieve their best in their sport and studies.

The UniSA Elite Athlete Scholarship recognises the financial constraints that impact elite athletes when undertaking tertiary study. The scholarship is designed to assist the recipient with reducing these pressures‚ supporting them to achieve academic excellence while also pursuing a high level in their sporting career.

The Elite Athlete Scholarship will be awarded to a South Australian student who is commencing university for the first time in 2024‚ is enrolled to study a UniSA undergraduate program‚ and meets the elite athlete criteria‚ including elite athletes with a disability.

The successful applicant will have their name and UniSA program published on the UniSA website to announce their awarding of the scholarship.

The successful applicant must maintain enrolment in a UniSA undergraduate program and satisfactory academic progress to be eligible for the scholarship in subsequent years.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria

To be eligible, students must be: 

• Be a commencing UniSA student enrolled in a UniSA undergraduate program
• Be starting university for the first time 
• Completed the majority of secondary education in South Australia
• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia 
• Registered in the UniSA Elite Athlete Performer Program (EAPP) prior to the scholarship closing date 
• Currently competing in or training in a sport with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) or the South Australian Institute of Sport (SASI) toward an Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, World Championship, and/or World Para Championship level.
• Submit the following: 
  • a supporting statement describing how the Elite Athlete Scholarship will support your sport and academic endeavours.
  • a letter from your sporting organisation confirming that you are currently competing or training toward an Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, World Championship, and/or World Para Championship level.

When assessing applications preference will be given to applicants who:

• identify as Aboriginal
• are a student with a disability
• are first in family to attend university
• can demonstrate financial disadvantage
• are Lesbian, Gay, Bi+, Transgender, Intersex, Queer* and/or Asexual
• have a refugee background

Value: $80,000

The scholarship recipient receives $20‚000 per annum (to a maximum of $80‚000‚ for up to four years of full-time study (or part-time equivalent)‚ to support their educational and living expenses.

Scholarship payments will be made following Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates.

UniSA Elite Athlete & Performer Travel Grant

The UniSA Athlete & Performer Travel Grants provide financial assistance to registered students on the UniSA Elite Athlete & Performer Program who meet the criteria of the grant. The grant supports attendance at eligible state‚ national and international events (either sport-based or performance-based) through reimbursement of defined fees incurred:

• flights
• accommodation
• registration fees
• official uniforms

Fees incurred as a result of participation in a UniSport Nationals event will not be eligible for reimbursement if the event is eligible for UniSA Sport funding to UniSA Sport participants.

Please note the following:

• Applications will be assessed and allocated in chronological order of receipt until available funds are exhausted.
• Applications finalised after an application closing date.
• There are a high level of applications and a limited number of grants available annually. Your application does not guarantee an offer.
• Only one UniSA Elite Athlete & Performer Travel grant will be awarded per student in a calendar year.
• Only one performance / sporting event will be reimbursed to a student in a calendar year.
• Students will not be reimbursed for costs incurred during a regular sporting season/competition.  The grant is for specific events only.  
• Fees incurred as a result of participation in a UniSport event are not eligible for reimbursement.

• Applications must be made after the final date of competition / event, preferably in the round immediately after your competition / event. 

• Applications made before the final date of competition / event will only be accepted during Round 4 when a sporting event, performance or performing competition is held during November / December (application opening table found here). 

Applicants will be required to upload a letter from their sporting body / association containing the following: 

1. Confirmation of their selection for the competition / event
2. The name, date(s) and location of the competition / event
3. An itemised breakdown of the costs that they are directly responsible for as a result of the competition / event, specifically the following (if applicable):

• • flights
  • accommodation
  • registration fees
  • uniform

UniSA Equipment Grant for Invigilated Online Exams

The UniSA Equipment Grant for Invigilated Online Exams provides financial assistance to support students with the purchase of computer equipment to meet the minimum system requirements to undertake invigilated online exams.

Eligibility and selection criteria:
- Australian citizen‚ a permanent resident or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa.
- Full-time or part-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate program.
- Experiencing financial disadvantage.
- Currently enrolled in a course where the final exam is an invigilated online exam (UniSA Online courses are not eligible for this grant). 
- Has not been the recipient of a UniSA grant for computer equipment in the last 5 years.
- Students studying a UniSA Online  program are not eligible.

Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship to apply for the grant. This can be done by providing evidence of current receipt of a HealthCare Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit e.g., Austudy, Abstudy, Youth Allowance, etc. Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Income Assessment Form, to support their application.

When assessing applications preference will be given to applicants who are:
- An Aboriginal student.
- Living in a regional/rural/isolated area.
- Have a disability.
- From a Non-English speaking background.
- From a refugee background.
- Are Lesbian, Gay, Bi+, Transgender, Intersex, Queer* and/or Asexual.

* In the context of this Grant, Queer is used to describe people of diverse genders, bodies and sexualities.

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of grant available, the grants will be awarded in order of application submission.

Applications will not be accepted retrospectively (i.e. where an online invigilated exam has already been undertaken).

UniSA Excellence Scholarship

UniSA will offer Excellence Scholarships to South Australian students who have achieved an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99 (exclusive of bonus points) and have enrolled to study a UniSA undergraduate degree. Scholarship recipients will receive $5,000 in their first semester of study to support their educational and living expenses.

Criteria

The scholarships will be awarded to all students who meet the following criteria:

• Are Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.
• Completed high school in South Australia, either through the SACE or IB.
• Achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 99 (Exclusive of ATAR adjustment factors) or equivalent IB score.
• Applied through SATAC to study an undergraduate Bachelor degree at UniSA and have enrolled in that program to study full time.

The University will automatically offer the scholarship to eligible students (there is no application process).

The scholarship payment will be made following the census date in Study Period 2. The scholarship cannot be deferred.

Recipients of the UniSA Outstanding Achievement Scholarship will not be eligible for the UniSA Excellence Scholarship.

Please note students taking gap years are not eligible for this scholarship. Students must be enrolled in UniSA in the year immediately following their Year 12 completion.

UniSA Online Aboriginal Grant

The UniSA Online Aboriginal Grant supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in an undergraduate UniSA Online program.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Enrolled in an undergraduate UniSA Online program (minimum of two courses or one course part-time), in their first academic year, at census date
• Full-time or part-time load.
• Identify as Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and accepted as such in the community the student belongs to, lives in, or has lived in.
• Submission of a written statement.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) outlining: 

• Academic achievements or prior work highlights/successes.
• Describe your family heritage and your connection to community
• Reasons for studying your current program.
• Future career goals and impact you would like to have on your chosen profession.
• How the current degree supports your aspirations.
• Evidence of community involvement.
• Willingness to act as an ambassador for UniSA in the year in which you receive the grant to document the impact of the grant (e.g. online promotion and testimonials).

The grant will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and information provided in the written statement.

Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend a selection panel interview conducted via teleconference.

Value: $5,500 

Payment will be in three instalments:
$1,000 (paid after the census date for the relevant study period)
$2,250 (paid following the completion of four UniSA Online courses)
$2,250 (paid following the completion of eight UniSA online courses) 

The second and third payments are conditional upon successful completion of UniSA Online courses (as specified above) and a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 4.5.

UniSA Outstanding Achievement Scholarship

UniSA will offer Outstanding Achievement Scholarships to South Australian students who have achieved an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.95 (exclusive of bonus points) and have enrolled to study a UniSA undergraduate degree. Scholarship recipients will receive $10,000 per annum, for up to four years of full-time study (to a maximum of $40,000), to support their educational and living expenses.

Criteria

The scholarships will be awarded to all students who meet the following criteria:

• Are Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
• Achieved an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.95 (exclusive of bonus points) or equivalent IB score.
• Applied through SATAC to study an undergraduate Bachelor degree at UniSA and have enrolled in that program to study full-time.

The University will automatically offer the scholarship to eligible students (there is no application process).

Scholarship recipients will be required to be enrolled on a full-time basis and maintain a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0 in order to receive the scholarship payments. Scholarship payments of $5,000 will be made following the census dates in study periods two and five each year. The scholarship cannot be deferred.

Recipients of the UniSA Outstanding Achievement Scholarship will not be eligible for the UniSA Excellence Scholarship.

Please note students taking gap years are not eligible for this scholarship. Students must be enrolled in UniSA in the year immediately following their Year 12 completion.

UniSA Student Exchange Travel Grants

The University of South Australia is committed to providing opportunities for students to gain an international perspective by participating in student exchange. Studying on exchange can be an enriching cultural and academic experience and one that benefits you throughout your life. UniSA has more than 80 exchange partners throughout the world in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

When these travel grants are available, all UniSA students who are accepted into the exchange program will be accessed for eligibility as part of their application process. While on student exchange, you remain enrolled at the University of South Australia and continue to pay your normal UniSA fees. You do not pay tuition fees to the host institution. Additionally, for students that are eligible, Centrelink payments continue to be paid while overseas on student exchange. You will also receive credit for the courses you take on student exchange, meaning that you will still be able to complete your degree on time.

The award of Travel Grants is subject to the discretion of the Pro Vice Chancellor: International.

University of South Australia Rural Reconnect Relocation Scholarship

The University of South Australia Rural Reconnect Relocation Scholarships were established as part of the University of South Australia Rural Reconnect project. These scholarships‚ valued at $8‚000 each‚ will assist students from rural and isolated areas to fund their relocation costs associated with moving to the city in order to pursue full-time undergraduate study.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

• be Australian citizens or Permanent Residents
• commencing full-time study in an undergraduate degree program
• have completed Year 12 within the last two and a half years.

Applicants are required to submit the following:

• A completed application form
• A character reference – the reference must also verify that the applicant has lived in a rural or isolated area for at least 4 years prior to the scholarship application
• a written statement (max 500 words) detailing:
  • career goals
  • personal goals
  • how ther recipient intends to give back to the community by returning to their high school and addressing year 11 and 12 students regarding their university experience.

Assessment is made on the basis of financial disadvantage‚ academic merit‚ a personal written statement‚ and a character reference.  Recipients are also required to contribute to their local community‚ provide a written reflection at the conclusion of their scholarship‚ and participate in scholarship research.

Value: $8‚000 split into three instalments provided the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria and maintains a GPA of 5.0 or above.

Scholarship payments instalments: $3‚000 in February‚ $4‚000 in July‚ and $1‚000 at the conclusion of Study Period 5.  The final payment is subject to demonstrated community involvement.

These Grants provide financial assistance to financially disadvantaged UniSA students who are Lesbian, Gay, Bi+, Transgender, Intersex, Queer* and/or Asexual.

Two Grants are available per Academic Unit. If there are no successful applicants in an Academic Unit, Grants may be allocated to successful applicants from another Academic Unit.

Eligibility Requirement

Students are eligible to apply for a University of South Australia Rainbow Pride Grant if they:

1. Are an Australian citizen‚ a permanent resident or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa.
2. Are enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate program.
3. Are Lesbian, Gay, Bi+, Transgender, Intersex, Queer* and/or Asexual.
4. Can provide evidence of financial disadvantage.

Applications may be weighted according to the following factors:

• Commencing higher education
• Identifying as Aboriginal
• Living in a regional/rural/isolated area
• Having a disability
• Non-English speaking background

Applicants must submit a written statement of no more than 500 words describing how they contribute to LGBTIQA+ communities and how the Grant will assist them. Alternatively, in lieu of a written statement, applicants may submit a written endorsement provided by UniSA’s Rainbow Club.

To be eligible to receive the Grant payments successful applicants must:

• Remain enrolled after SP2 and SP5 census dates.
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress as per UniSA’s Assessment Policies and Procedures.

Value:

$2,000.00 paid in two instalments:

• $1,000 after Study Period 2 census date
• $1,000 after Study Period 5 census date

Vacation Research Scholarships

The University of South Australia offers Vacation Research Scholarships:

High Achiever Vacation Research Scholarships
These scholarships are for undergraduate students in their second, third or Honours year, who have a strong academic record. The scholarships offer the opportunity to undertake research for up to 8 weeks with experienced researchers, usually between December and February, in a recognised Research Institute or Centre within UniSA.

Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarship

UniSA will offer up to 20 Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarships in 2017 to future international students who have achieved an 85% average (or equivalent) in previous studies and have applied to study a UniSA undergraduate or postgraduate (by coursework) degree.

Scholarship recipients will receive a 50% reduction in their student contributions (tuition fees) per annum, for up to four years of full-time study. 

Successful applicants will become a UniSA International Student Ambassador and will be required to maintain a credit average (or equivalent) for each consecutive year of study to be eligible for the 50% student contribution (tuition fee) reduction.

The scholarships will be awarded to selected international students who meet the following criteria:

• Be a prospective international student
• Be eligible to study in Australia with a student visa
• Not have accepted any other UniSA scholarship or bursary
• Have achieved an 85% average (or equivalent) in previous studies
• Meet the minimum English language entry requirements for the chosen program applied into
• Meet normal program admission requirements for the chosen program applied into.

Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarships are not available to:

• Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia
• Sponsored students (foreign government or Australian government
• Research Degree applicants
• Students claiming advanced standing or credit into UniSA programs.

Unsuccessful applicants of the Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarship will automatically be considered for the International Merit Scholarship.

Scholarship recipients will be required to be enrolled on a full-time basis at UniSA's South Australian campuses, and maintain a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0 in order to receive the scholarship payments. Scholarship payments (50% of tuition fees) will be provided as a discount on successful applicants' student contribution invoice at the commencement of the relevant study period each year. The scholarship cannot be deferred.

Wattle Range Council UniSA Study Grant

The Wattle Range Council UniSA Study Grant provides encouragement and support for talented students from the Wattle Range Council area as they commence a UniSA undergraduate degree program.

The grant will be awarded to students who resided in the Wattle Range Council area during Year 12, or in the period immediately prior to lodging an application to study at UniSA.

Two grants are available each year:

• One grant for Wattle Range Council residents relocating to Adelaide to commence an undergraduate program offered at a UniSA metropolitan campus.
• One grant for Wattle Range Council residents commencing study at the UniSA Mount Gambier campus.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

• Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
• Have resided within the Wattle Range Council area (postcodes 5277, 5278, 5279 and 5280) during Year 12, or in the six-months prior to lodging an application to study at UniSA.
• Be a commencing student in their first year of higher education study (applicants must not have attended a tertiary or higher education institution).
• Full-time study load in an undergraduate program.
• Demonstrated financial disadvantage.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 250 words) outlining:

• Reasons for studying their UniSA program and how the degree supports their future goals.
• Local community involvement or extracurricular activities.
• How the grant funds will be used.
• Any financial disadvantage the applicant wishes to be taken into account.

Supporting documentation (evidence of financial disadvantage and written statement) will be forwarded to the Scholarships Office by the due date.

The grant will be awarded on the basis of financial disadvantage and content of the written statement.

Wyndham Richardson Accommodation Scholarships

Originally established in 1983 the Wyndham Richardson Accommodation Scholarships awards scholarships, bursaries and prizes based on merit or reasons of equity to promote a recipient's tertiary education. These are available to Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Residents from any State or Territory studying in a tertiary institution.

Wyndham Richardson was born in Melbourne in 1904, but completed his primary and secondary education in South Australia before returning with his family to Melbourne. A combination of circumstances including ill-health, prevented his completing an Engineering degree begun in Adelaide and continued in Melbourne.

He never forgot his disappointment, and later in life he established this Trust to provide assistance to tertiary students experiencing difficulties, including financial difficulties, in undertaking a course of study.

The Wyndham Richardson Accommodation Scholarships provides up to four accommodation scholarships valued at $2,500 each to assist with accommodation expenses for needy students from rural or remote areas in any Australian State.

The scholarship is open to continuing and commencing students. Students must meet all of the following essential selection criteria:

• Student must be able to verify financial disadvantage (eg through evidence of means tested Centrelink benefits or through assessment by the 'UniSA Scholarships Assessment Form')
• Students must originate from a rural or regional area. Students who have moved in order to study will be given first priority
• Students must be enrolled into an undergraduate degree program on a full time basis. Those who can verify extenuating circumstances (eg disability or carer status) will have the opportunity to do so in the application form, and they may be deemed eligible with 50% or more load (in line with the University's equity policy)

The scholarships will be awarded on academic merit. Where applications require further separation, other equity indicators may be taken into account according to the University's equity focus (as defined by the University's equity policy).

To apply students will need to log into the myUniSA Student Portal and clicking on my Finances. This will display a 'my Scholarships' link (under the heading 'Related Information') which will take you to the my Scholarships homepage.

Value: $2,500 to assist with accommodation expenses.

Zonta Club of Adelaide Community Development Grant

The Zonta Club of Adelaide Community Development Grant assists female full-time students of the University of South Australia who are undertaking community development projects in Australia or overseas that make a positive difference in the lives of women. The grant is to support the costs involved in undertaking the project. This could include materials, travel, data collection etc.

The grant aligns with Zonta Club's key objective to advance the status of women through the service and advocacy. Further information on the work the Zonta Club supports can be viewed at www.zonta.org or www.zontaclubadelaide.org.au

The grant is open to female Honours and Postgraduate Coursework continuing students in the field of Psychology and Social Work and Social Policy who have a research project as part of their degree. The project should involve community development that makes a positive difference in the lives of women.

Preference may be given to students applying to do a project in an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community, South- East Asia or a Pacific Island nation.

Recipients will be invited to attend a Zonta Club dinner and share with members the highlight of their project and how the grant supported their project.

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter in the form of personal written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

• Reasons for studying their current program.
• Academic achievements.
• Prior community involvement.
• Future career goals.
• Description of the project being undertaken individually or as a team. The project is required to have a clear outcome to benefit women in a disadvantaged community.
• Incorporate a proposed budget and project timeline.

Applicants will also need to obtain an endorsement letter from their University Project Director or Course Coordinator confirming the current project to be undertaken.
