International Students

The Connect Adelaide Experience is an initiative where international students remaining onshore in South Australia over the summer holidays are connected with a UniSA Staff member to experience Adelaide and life in Australia in a social setting, on or off campus. UniSA will make the introduction between you and the volunteer.

This program is available to you if you are an international student and are over 18 years of age.

As a UniSA international student, your volunteer might invite you to:

  • Meet over coffee or a meal
  • Have a BBQ in one of Adelaide’s many parks
  • Watch or participate in a sports activity
  • Visit an Adelaide attraction together
  • Go to the beach

All costs associated with the social activity are expected to be covered by your UniSA volunteer. The only cost you might have to incur is transportation.

Your Connect Adelaide Experience is designed to take place over the summer holidays in late 2020 and early 2021.

This is a great opportunity to informally connect with a UniSA staff member and feel part of our UniSA community. As a result of the Connect Adelaide Experience international students indicate they have felt supported and included in the university community.

You must be an international student and over the age of 18.

The staff volunteer will cover all costs associated with the Connect Adelaide Experience activity. You may need to cover your own travel costs to your arranged activity, unless otherwise negotiated with your matched volunteer.

Yes. Registration closes 4 December 2020. Given the high number of international students remaining onshore during the summer holidays, we recommend you register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Places are limited and if it becomes full, we may close the registration earlier.

The expectation is that you and the volunteer will negotiate a time together to meet for a casual coffee, meal or activity during the summer holidays. After this meeting, there is no obligation to you to continue to meet again, however, if agreed by you and your volunteer you can do so.

We try to match by campus location in the first instance. It is not possible to select the staff volunteer yourself.

We understand that things can come up at the last minute, but you must be polite and let the volunteer know.  Please communicate as soon as possible with your staff volunteer to say that you can’t make it, and try not to wait until the last minute to advise them.
