Important Finance Dates

The University sets a census date for each course. Census dates for each study period can be found on the Academic Year Calendar.

If you are a Commonwealth supported student, you must (on or before the census date):

complete your online Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF)
finalise your student contribution payment arrangements for the course(s)
If you are eligible for HECS-HELP, you must:
- give your tax file number (TFN) to your University if you intend to take out a HECS-HELP loan for your student contribution amount,
- make any up front payments to your University that you intend to make, and
- pay your entire student contribution amount up front to your University if you do not provide your TFN.
If you are not eligible for HECS-HELP, you must:
- pay all of your student contribution up front (you will not receive the HECS-HELP discount and you cannot take out a HECS-HELP loan).

If you fail to undertake the steps described above, your enrolment as a Commonwealth supported student will be cancelled.

If you are eligible for FEE-HELP and intend to obtain a loan, you must:

give your tax file number (TFN)
complete the Request for FEE-HELP assistance form through myEnrolment
ensure you have not exceeded your lifelong FEE-HELP limit

After the census date

You incur a HELP debt for the course(s) if you have taken out a HELP loan.
A Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) or Enrolment Confirmation Notice detailing your course enrolments and your payment options for the study period is provided to all students online and can be found in the 'my Academic Record' section of myUniSA

Please note: To withdraw without forfeiting any up front payment or incurring a HELP debt, you must follow the UniSA withdrawal procedure on or before the census date.

After the census date, your University cannot accept any of the following for a course:

your Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF) or Request for FEE-HELP assistance form
an up front payment for your student contribution, or
Your TFN (except where you supplied a Certificate of application for a TFN on or before the census date).

If you provided the University with your Certificate of application for a TFN as proof that you had applied for a TFN, you have 21 days from the day the Tax Office issues you with a Tax File Number Advice to quote your TFN to the University.

Withdrawing after the census date

If you withdraw from one or more of your courses after the census date (or if you do not follow your University's withdrawal procedures correctly) you will:

incur a HELP debt (if you took out a HELP loan and did not pay your student contribution or tuition up front for the course) and
forfeit any student contribution/tuition you have paid on or before the census date.

It is your responsibility to be aware of these dates.

Remaining enrolled at the census date

If you remain enrolled at the census date, you are required to pay your student contribution/tuition, either in the form of an up front payment made on or before this date, or if you are eligible, through a HELP loan.
