Sexuality

University is often a time when students are coming to understand and explore their sexuality. Your sexuality isn’t just about who you choose to have sex with. It’s also about your feelings and your own sense of identity. Feeling comfortable with your own sexuality is very important to your greater sense of self and wellbeing.

Your sexuality may not be a fixed thing, nor may it fit into any particular box. There are all sorts of sexual identity labels these days which might help you understand more about your own sexuality.

You might choose to identify as:

  • Straight
  • Gay
  • Lesbian
  • Bisexual
  • Transgender
  • Intersex
  • Questioning
  • Asexual

Societal norms, religious views and the opinions of friends and family can make coming to terms with sexual identity a real challenge for many people.

Remember, you are not alone. Adelaide’s Feast Festival celebrates sexual diversity each year and getting involved is a great way to celebrate unity in diversity.

If you have questions about sexuality or could do with some non-judgemental support, come along and talk with a UniSA Counsellor.
