UniSA Researcher Development Framework and Programs
How was the UniSA Researcher Development Framework and Programs developed?
The UniSA Researcher Development Program was created, and continues to be designed, through a consultative and research-based process to deliver best practice learning and development opportunities.
What do the Domains in the Researcher Development Framework cover?
Researcher Expertise encompasses discipline-based skills and knowledge specific to the area of research, such as methodologies, techniques and profession/industry specific knowledge.
Enterprising Researcher covers research fundamentals that are generic across research areas, including research integrity, managing effective projects, measuring/evaluating impact, commercialisation and IP, partnership and engagement, ensuring effective resources, reporting, communications, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Career Focus covers personal qualities, competencies and capabilities applicable across research areas, including maintaining health and wellbeing, research leadership, teamwork, career development and creating an effective research culture.
How are the career stages defined and how might they apply to my situation?
The career stage definitions are a broad guide that enables academic staff to consider what development activities might be most relevant to their current or future career stage.
When applying the career stages to identify potentially relevant activities, it is important to consider your individual circumstances. These could include professional or personal career interruptions, career pathway, discipline, background and experience. Different funding schemes, fellowships or programs may define career stages differently.
As a broad guide only, the career stage definitions:
- Early-career Researcher (ECR) – up to 7 years post-PhD conferral
- Mid-career Researcher (MCR) – up to 15 years post-PhD conferral
- Senior-career Research (SCR) – Levels D and E academic staff
Who provides the researcher development activities available in myRD?
Many areas within UniSA contribute researcher development activities that are available in myRD, including the UniSA Library and Academic Units, with a core group of programs facilitated by the UniSA Research Office.
This enables us to ensure that a breadth of offerings are available to support researcher development needs across a variety of career stages, disciplines, experience levels and career and research goals. It also enables the inclusion of UniSA expertise and context in delivering development opportunities, balanced with external facilitation as relevant.
