Wireless

Important:

The use of all Information Technology (IT) facilities at the University of South Australia, including the UniSA wired and wireless networks, is subject to the University's Acceptable use of Information Technology (IT) facilities policy

There are 4 wireless networks that can be accessed on UniSA campuses and sites:

unisa

  • Provides UniSA students and staff access to the external internet and the internal UniSA network.
  • Available on all UniSA campuses and sites, including regional and interstate sites.

unisa-guest

  • Provides internet access to the internet to all authorised guests who are not from a participating eduroam institution.
  • Available on all UniSA campuses and sites, including regional and interstate sites and must be arranged in advance via a UniSA staff member (internet event 'sponsor').
  • unisa-guest does not provide access to the internal UniSA network, wired access to the internet, or printing services.

eduroam

  • UniSA Staff and Students:  When away from UniSA, eduroam provides a secure internet connection for UniSA students and staff while they are visiting participating eduroam institutions, providing access to the internet and UniSA's internal network.
  • Staff and Students from eduroam Institutions:  If you are visiting the University of South Australia from a participating eduroam institution you can connect to the eduroam wireless network using your login credentials (username and password) and security settings from your home institution. 
  • eduroam is available on all UniSA metropolitan campuses and Whaylla, as well as over 500 sites around the world.

unisa-help

  • unisa-help wireless network is an unsecure network that provides restricted access to UniSA IT Help Desk support resources only.
  • IMPORTANT: unisa-help does not provide access to the internet or the full internal UniSA network.
  • If an internet user experiences technical or access issues when attempting to connect to UniSA internet, unisa-guest or eduroam on a UniSA campus or site they need to connect to unisa-help for assistance.  Unisa-help allows users to access support resources to assist identifying and resolving their internet connection issue by providing links and contact details to seek further assistance from the UniSA  IT Help Desk.
  1. Enable wireless on your device (if required)
  2. Open Wireless Manager
  3. Select unisa
  4. Select Connect
  5. Enter your UniSA credentials:
    • Username: <your UniSA username>
    • Password: <your UniSA password>

The following settings are required for the unisa wireless network to function correctly:

SSID: unisa
Access Point Authentication: 802.1X Security or WPA2/AES
EAP Type + Authentication Protocol: EAP PEAP with MS CHAP V2  
Username: UniSA Username
Domain: wireless.unisa.edu.au
NOTE:
You may not need this, it depends on your device
Service Certificate: wireless.unisa.edu.au or select Use system certificates
Server Thumbprint: 01:CA:EE:5A:25:79:D6:36:2E:FA:1B:8F:6C:5B:A6:F2

The unisa-help wireless network is an unsecure network that provides restricted access to UniSA IT Help Desk support resources only.

IMPORTANT: unisa-help does not provide access to the internet or the full internal UniSA network.

If an internet user experiences technical or access issues when attempting to connect to UniSA internet, unisa-guest or eduroam on a UniSA campus or site they are automatically connected to unisa-help.  unisa-help allows users to access support resources to assist identifying and resolving their internet connection issue, and provides links and contact details to seek further assistance from the UniSA IT Help Desk.
