Early-Career Researcher Academy 

πŸ“š What to Expect:

The UniSA ECR Academy will support participants to:

  • understand the personal factors that support a successful and sustainable research career
  • understand research career pathways and develop knowledge and skills to accelerate their career progression
  • generate effective networks within the Academy cohort, the Academy Alumni Network, and with other colleagues locally, nationally, and internationally.

πŸ•’Commitment: 

Six face-to-face workshops held over an 8-month period, all from 9am - 3pm at the Enterprise Hub, City West Campus. 

1. Thinking big (25 September 2024, 9am - 3pm 

This session will support you to chart a course for your ambitious research program. We will set the scene for the Academy workshops, explore the research landscape at UniSA and nationally, and provide opportunities to network with colleagues. There will be a practical focus on mapping your early career research program.

2. Keeping well (23 October 2024, 9am - 3pm)

This session will provide invaluable guidance on how to how to develop a healthy and sustainable research career. Led by Hugh Kearns, this will include conversations about self-management, work-life balance, learning and creativity, with the overarching aim of supporting you to pursue your research program without burning out. 

3. Finding support (27 November 2024, 9am - 3pm)

Do you know all of the options for research funding in Australia? Or what support is available to you at UniSA? This session will kick-start the funding strategy for your research program by exploring the range of funding opportunities available to you and building the skills needed to craft a compelling case for support.

4. Getting recognised (February 2025, 9am - 3pm)

Great research doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. This session will provide a range of practical advice and resources to build your national and international profile. We will focus on representing yourself and your research to your academic communities and partners, in the media, and for recruitment, promotion, and award panels.

5. Creating impact (March 2025, 9am- 3pm)

This session will focus on making a difference through your research. We will explore the various pathways to research impact and the evidence you can use to demonstrate impact. You will discuss how the needs of research users can drive your research designs, and develop an impact plan to support your research program.

6. Building partnerships (April) 

This session will support you to develop research partnerships within and beyond UniSA. We will explore skills and strategies required to build effective research teams and establish strong collaborations with external partners. This session will bring together key ideas from across previous workshops to help translate your plans into reality.

 

πŸŽ“Who Can Apply?

ECR Academy is open to all early career researchers across Academic Units and Centres, with supporting evidence from their Dean of Research.

Former Researcher Development Program Information 

The Early Career Researcher (ECR) Development Program was offered from 2007 - 2021 and was aimed at academic staff in the early stages of their research careers, seeking opportunities for strategic career planning and skill development in the area of academic research. More information on the grassroots of this program can be found here
