Leadership in Action

📚 What to Expect:

While leaders outside universities often have influenced based on authority, research leaders must build their influence through inspiration. Many researchers do not see themselves as leaders but are passionate about building the impact of their research or enabling others to succeed. This program will provide practical help for researchers to tackle research leadership from three perspectives:

  • Lead your self
  • Lead your team
  • Lead your discipline/university

This simple roadmap opens a strong dialogue around the management of people and ideas and the difference between management and leadership.

  • Building a research culture: supportive, nurturing and generous.
  • Presenting your research to those beyond your discipline.
  • Building and leading productive research teams.
  • Research teams’ vs the sole researcher, which is right when?
  • Develop and implement a research strategy.
  • Building external links beyond the university.
  • Superior mentoring in a research environment.
  • Leading a dispersed team.
  • Building self-awareness and reflection through a comprehensive work preference analysis.
  • Awareness of the essentials of academic Governance in Australia.
