Online module: Assessment

Introduction

In conversations among educators, the view that "assessment drives learning" is often expressed. But is this true? And what are we really referring to, when we talk about 'assessment'?

This module introduces key principles in assessment design that are relevant to the UniSA context.

We start by looking at what assessing means, why we do it, and the different terms that are used to describe assessment purposes.

We then delve deeper into quality in assessment design and discuss some fundamental concepts that are included in the UniSA Assessment Principles and Procedures Manual - or APPM.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this module you should be able to:

  • Define assessment and its purposes
  • Compare and contrast terms describing assessment purposes
  • Identify key principles of quality assessment in the APPM
