Introduction
Evaluation is an integral component of university course and teaching development. It is commonly associated with online questionnaires that students complete at the end of a course (such as myCourse Experience). This form of evaluation has become commonplace in the higher education sector. However, it is important that your understanding of evaluation extends beyond the collection of student feedback at the end of a Study Period, and embraces the key role of evaluation (from multiple perspectives) in the improvement of courses and teaching.
A variety of evaluation feedback sources can support course and teaching development, lessening the singular focus on student feedback. The objectives, assessment, learning activities and evaluation components of a course all 'align' to provide feedback that can be used to improve student learning.
This module provides an overview of the key concepts and terminology, principles and approaches relevant to the evaluation of teaching and courses that can improve student learning at UniSA.
