Architectus Third Year Grant

Architectus is an industry leading architecture and design studio specialising in commercial, education, interiors, public, residential, transport, urban design, and planning. The firm has offices in five Australian capital cities and in Auckland (New Zealand).

The Architectus Third Year Grant will be available to full-time or part-time UniSA Bachelor of Architectural Studies students currently in third year, or in the last 36 units of study.

Applicants should have a strong academic record based on grades obtained in the first two years of the program and intend to progress to the Master of Architecture upon completion of the Bachelor program.

The Grant supports new talent in the architecture field and a paid work placement at Architectus is an important feature of the grant, extending its value by providing practical work experience and
mentoring.

Eligibility and selection criteria:
To be eligible for the grants, applicants must:
• Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or similar visa for refugees.
• Be in the third year of the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (DBAE) program, or on the last 36 units of their program load.
• Intend to progress to the Master of Architecture upon completion of the Bachelor program
• Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 5 or above.
• Be a full-time or part-time student.
• Be willing to undertake a paid work placement at a mutually negotiated time and duration(as agreed between the recipient and Architectus).
• Submit a written statement.
• Provide a Curriculum Vitae.
• Attend an interview.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500-750 words) detailing:
• Reasons for studying Architecture.
• Future career goals within the architecture industry and how the Grant and work opportunity would help achieve these goals.
• Academic achievements.
• Work experience, community involvement and/or extracurricular activities/interests.
• The name of any scholarships or grants currently held (or where an application is pending)
• Expression of interest to undertake a paid work placement at Architectus at a mutually agreed time and duration.

In addition, applicants must provide a Curriculum Vitae and full academic record or transcript of their undergraduate qualification.

Department for Trade and Investment (DTI) Planning Student Grant

The Department for Trade and Investment (DTI) Planning Student Grant will be awarded to UniSA undergraduate students who intend to undertake the Master of Urban and Regional Planning upon completion. The grant is open to full-time or part-time students in their final year of any undergraduate study in both allied (e.g. Architectural Studies) and non-allied disciplines.

The grant includes the opportunity for recipients to engage with DTI.

Eligibility and selection criteria:
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or similar visa for refugees or international student
  • Be intending to enrol in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (DMUR) on a full time or part time basis (and be enrolled and active at the time of receiving the grant)
  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5 or above based on undergraduate academic record
  • Not be in current receipt of a scholarship or grant sponsored by a planning industry participant
  • Submit a written statement
  • Provide a Curriculum Vitae
  • Attend an interview if required

Applicants must provide a written statement (500-750 words) detailing:

  • Reasons for studying urban and regional planning
  • Future career goals within the planning industry and how the Master of Urban and Regional Planning and grant will help achieve these goals
  • Academic standing and achievements

DesignInc Interior Architecture Grant

The DesignInc Interior Architecture Grant will be awarded to full-time or part-time Bachelor of Interior Architecture third-year students who have completed 72 units of study. The grant will be offered to students at the start of third year.

A paid work placement at DesignInc is a requirement of the grant and recipients may wish to integrate placement hours towards the completion of the 4th year course ARCH 3060 Interior Architecture Workplacement 2.  The placement will take place in final year (exact timing and duration to be mutually agreed between DesignInc and the recipient considering the study, work and family commitments of the student, and the firm’s ability to host the placement).

Eligibility and selection criteria:
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or similar visa for refugees.
  • Have completed 72 units and be enrolled in the third year of Bachelor of Interior Architecture (DBIR) on a full- time or part-time basis
  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or above
  • Indicate willingness to undertake a paid work placement at a mutually agreed time and duration
  • Not be in current receipt of a scholarship or grant sponsored by another architecture company
  • Submit a written statement.
  • Provide a Curriculum Vitae and a portfolio of design work.
  • Attend an interview.

Gavin Walkley Community Engagement Grant

The Gavin Walkley Community Engagement Grant has been established by Jane Walkley in memory of her father‚ Dr Gavin Walkley CBE‚ LFRAIA‚ who was a noted South Australian architect‚ town planner and academic. Dr Walkley spent 25 years (1951-76) as Head of the University’s Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture and Design‚ during which time he greatly expanded the range of design and planning education on offer‚ by including subjects such as town planning‚ landscape design‚ and interior design.

Eligible programs:

  • DBIR Bachelor of Interior Architecture 4th Year Honours students
  • DHAD Bachelor of Art and Design (Honours)
  • DMAE Master of Architecture
  • DGSP Graduate Diploma in Design
  • DMSP Master of Design
  • DGUR Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning
  • DMUR Master of Urban and Regional Planning

The grant is designed to provide financial support to full-time students enrolled in one of the listed eligible programs within UniSA Creative.

The grant must be used for travel and financial support for the completion of a community engagement project in Australia or overseas. Financial support may include a stipend for the student to enable the project to be undertaken.

Applicants must identify a mentor from the academic staff in the disciplinary area in which the project will focus. This mentor should be consulted prior to application and nominated in the applicant’s cover letter.

Applicants will be required to submit:

  • A proposal (1 x A4 Page) to undertake and complete a community engagement project including:

             o A description of a project to be undertaken individually by the  successful applicant. The project is required to benefit a community. The proposal should define who their community is and how the project benefits this community. The project may be a continuation of work previously undertaken in the applicant’s previous studies or a new initiative. The project description should demonstrate the applicant’s developing skills and knowledge with an emphasis on community engagement and benefits to that community.
           o Itemised budget.
           o Project timeline.

  • A portfolio of work (up to 10 x A4 pages)
  • A research based textual work (e.g. a Research Report or essay) (up to 15 x A4 pages)
  • A cover letter (1 x A4 Page)
  • An unofficial academic transcript
  • Agreement to:
    o Provide a final report by 31 January of the year following selection (or an explanation why this may not be possible).
    o Deliver a presentation of the project to students at a negotiated date.

Selection will be based on the submitted project proposal, portfolio‚ academic merit (Grade Point Average) and performance at an interview.

The recipient will present a report and/or a presentation of their project outcomes describing the impact and benefits on and to the community.

At all speaking engagements, publications and exhibitions arising from the community engagement project, recipients should acknowledge the support of the Gavin Walkley Community Engagement Grant.

Value: $5‚000 to be paid in two instalments of $2‚500. The first payment will occur after recipient selection to assist with project establishment. The second payment of $2,500 will be timed at an agreed midpoint of the community engagement project between the recipient and panel convenor.

George and Nita Balales Grant for the Creative Arts

The George and Nita Balales Grant for the Creative Arts will be awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time in the second, third of fourth year of an eligible creative arts undergraduate program at the University of South Australia, with a preference to those pursuing contemporary arts or performing arts studies.

The grant will provide financial assistance to a talented student experiencing financial disadvantage, assisting them with the cost of materials for their program, as well as general living expenses. Funds may also be used to participate in extra-curricular activity, such as travel, which will broaden their horizons and contribute to the recipient’s future success in the creative arts.

Eligible programs are:

  • Bachelor of Arts – Creative Writing and Literature; Cultural studies; Performing Arts; Social Media; and Screen Studies
  • Bachelor of Contemporary Art
  • Bachelor of Creative Industries
  • Bachelor of Art and Design (Honours)

Eligibility and selection criteria:

  • Australian Citizen.
  • Enrolled in an eligible program at UniSA.
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program as a second, third or fourth year student, or standalone Honours program.
  • Full-time study load.
  • Submission of a written statement.
  • Submission of a character reference.

Grant recipients are required to provide a progress report at the end of the grant year outlining their progress and achievements.

Full-time recipients will be given preference. Part-time applicants will be considered where there is a demonstrated need to study part-time.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

  • Academic achievements.
  • Reasons for studying their current program and their passion for the creative arts.
  • Personal circumstances/financial disadvantage (disclosed at applicant’s discretion).
  • How this grant will contribute to future career goals.

The grant is aimed at students in financial need. Applicants should address the aspect of financial need in their written statement.

Applicants are required to provide a character reference. Examples of a suitable referee could include a Program Director, Course Coordinator, employer, religious or community leader, coach, or Justice of the Peace.

Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend a selection panel interview.

Applicants should intend to progress to the Master of Architecture upon completion of the Bachelor program, with the second payment instalment being contingent on enrolment in the Master of Architecture program.

Recipients would be offered a paid work placement at Hames Sharley. The timing and duration of the placement would be mutually agreed between Hames Sharley and the recipient considering the study, work and family commitments of the student, and the firm’s ability to host the placement.

Eligibility and selection criteria:
To be eligible for the grants, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or similar visa for refugees.
  •  Be enrolled in the third year of the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (DBAE) program, or on the last 36 units of their program load.
  • Progression to studying the Master of Architecture (DMAE) at UniSA in the year following award. This is when the paid work placement will occur and the second instalment will be paid (if eligibility requirements are met).
  • Through their undergraduate study display an interest in architectural research which provides evidence-based solutions, and evidence this in their submission documents
  • Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 or above.
  • Be a full-time or part-time student.
  • Indicate willingness to undertake a paid work placement at a mutually agreed time and duration

The grant would be offered to students who are intending to begin third year in the year following award, or who entered DBIR mid-year and will continue in third year in the year following award.

A paid work placement at Hames Sharley is a requirement of the grant and recipients may wish to integrate placement hours towards the completion of the 4th year course ARCH 3060 Interior Architecture Workplacement 2. Ian Berriman Memorial Architecture Scholarship

The Ian Berriman Memorial Architecture Scholarship is available to full-time first-year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (DBAE).

The scholarship is designed to support a student throughout the entirety of their architecture studies (including undergraduate and postgraduate programs), leading to future registration as an architect.

The scholarship is valued at up to $50,000 for a student undertaking the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (3 years full-time) (DBAE) and Master of Architecture (2 years full-time) (DMAE).

Eligibility and selection criteria:

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or refugee (holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or similar visa for refugees)
  • be a first-year student with current enrolment in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (DBAE)
  • be enrolled full-time with the intention to maintain full-time enrolment throughout the programs
  • demonstrate financial need, addressed in the written statement as part of their application, stating the grounds on which they wish to be considered
  • demonstrate academic achievement
  • provide a written statement clearly addressing the points listed below

Applicants are required to provide:

  • a written statement (maximum 750 words) detailing:
    • reasons for studying architecture
    • future career goals within the architecture industry
    • details of financial need and how the scholarship funds would assist them
    • educational background and any academic achievements (applicants should also provide details of secondary schooling, including Year 12 results, or details of alternative enrolment pathway)
    • work experience, community involvement and extracurricular activities/interests/hobbies
  • a portfolio of design work

The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need, the written statement and the portfolio. The academic achievements of applicants will also be taken into consideration as part of the selection process.

Linda Lou Murphy Visual Arts Scholarship

The scholarship has been established to honour the late Linda Lou Murphy who was a highly regarded South Australian artist known for performances that included the adornment of the body by complex folded paper forms. The interplay between skin/paper, artefact/body, and risk as a positive force were some of the themes that informed her work.

The scholarship is open to commencing or continuing students who are enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework contemporary art program (minimum load of 9 units per study period) and preference may be given to a first year student.

The recipient will be selected based on financial disadvantage or isolation, in accordance with the donors wishes, although consideration may also be given to applicants addressing other equity criteria. Additionally, recipients will be selected on their passion for contemporary art demonstrated in the personal written statement, and performance at an interview.

Scholarship applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, be enrolled in a Contemporary Art program, and provide a personal written statement. Applicants will need to provide relevant details relating to their equity status (e.g., Indigenous, low-socio economic status, rural or isolated location or students with a disability) and personal or financial circumstances should be included in their written statement.

Students who are in receipt of another scholarship administered by UniSA are not eligible to apply.

Owen and Ann Broughton Art Grant

The Owen and Ann Broughton Art Grant recognises the creative and academic achievements of UniSA Bachelor of Contemporary Art students.

The grant will support students entering third year and will be offered towards the end of the second year of study.

Owen and Ann Broughton made a significant contribution to the arts community of South Australia from 1950. Owen lectured at the School of Art and enjoyed discovering and developing talent particularly in sculpture. He was a professional sculptor with work represented in Government and private collections, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of South Australia. Ann was one of his students and went on to become an accomplished artist in drawing, pottery and sculpture.

The Kohler family (Leith, Andrew, Matthew and Simon) were related to the Broughtons and have generously established this perpetual award to honour the life and artistic endeavour of Owen and Ann.

The grant will be awarded to a second year Bachelor of Contemporary Art student who has excelled in their chosen discipline. The $2,500 grant will be paid as a single payment at the beginning of third year to support their further creative development.

The grant will help recipients meet the costs associated with study and pursue their artistic discipline including, but not limited to, textbooks‚ art supplies‚ computing equipment or other out-of-pocket expenses.

Successful recipients are asked to acknowledge that they are the recipient of the Owen and Ann Broughton Art Grant when submitting their work at the final year graduate exhibition.

  • Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or International Student.
  • Enrolled in second year Bachelor of Contemporary Art - applicants should be nearing completion of 72 units of study (credit can be included).

Royal South Australian Society of Arts UniSA Grant (supported by the Malcolm and Margaret Carbins Trust)

Established in 1856, the Royal South Australian Society of Arts (RSASA) is Australia’s oldest art society. RSASA represents South Australian artists and presents about a dozen exhibitions a year in their historic gallery in the Institute Building on North Terrace, Adelaide.

The Royal South Australian Society of Arts UniSA Grant provides an opportunity for emerging UniSA contemporary art students to engage with RSASA and the Institute Building to produce a work or body of work that responds to RSASA.

The grant will be offered to students in following programs to students with a Contemporary Art focus:

  • Third year students in the Bachelor of Contemporary Art (DBCX)
  • Bachelor of Art and Design (Honours)(DHAD)
  • Graduate Diploma in Design (DGSP) or
  • Master of Design (DMSP).

Two grants valued at $6,000 each will be offered every year.

Grant recipients will use as their inspiration the RSASA archives (the history available in two volumes with two new volumes in development, annual reports, books on RSASA artists, minutes of meetings, early exhibitions, catalogues, and art collections) and the Institute Building (entrance, stairs, foyer, gallery, work space and basement).

Grant recipients will define the work process, the goal and expected end point, costs and display method with occasional supervision from RSASA members.

The grant assists recipients with their living and/or education expenses including the cost of art materials while undertaking the RSASA project.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

  • Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa
  • Final year Bachelor of Contemporary Art (DBCX) students, or
  • Bachelor of Art and Design (Honours) (DHAD) students, or
  • Graduate Diploma in Design (DGSP) / Master of Design (DMSP) students
  • Full-time (preferred) or part-time student
  • Submission of written statement
  • Submission of art portfolio
  • Attendance at interview

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (500-750 words) detailing:

  • Knowledge of RSASA and the Institute Building and interest in the artworks displayed within.
  • Reasons for studying their contemporary art program and how the degree supports their future aspirations.
  • A summary of their art practice and achievements.
  • How the grant would enhance the applicant’s learning experience.
  • Academic achievements including current Grade Point Average (GPA) and any prizes or awards received.
  • How the grant funds are likely to be used and initial proposal on project direction (the work or body of work that responds to RSASA).

Recipients will be selected based on information provided in the written statement, the art portfolio and performance in interview.

Applicants should note that there could be expenses related to the exhibition of final work, including gallery hire, advertising, and the cost of building security (if required) at an opening event, and that these should be discussed with RSASA as soon as practicable prior to the exhibition opening.

Rymill House Foundation Living Heritage Travelling Grant

The Rymill House Foundation Living Heritage Travelling Grant offers $2,000 to one student enrolled in either the Bachelor of Architectural Studies or the Master of Architecture at the University of South Australia, to embark on an individual program of international travel to explore best practice in 'Living Heritage' - the philosophy of ensuring heritage listed places remain culturally relevant and active in contemporary society and across communities.

The recipient will present a report of their experiences and examples of global best practice to enhancing heritage places at the annual Australian Heritage Week at Rymill House event.

Scholz Vinall Aboriginal Architecture Scholarship

The Scholz Vinall Aboriginal Architecture Scholarship will be awarded to a commencing or continuing Aboriginal student studying the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (DBAE), Master of Architecture (DMAE) or the Bachelor of Interior Architecture (DBIR) at the University of South Australia.

The scholarship offers encouragement and support for commencing and continuing students with a passion for architecture.

Recipients will receive a scholarship valued at up to $15,000.

Continuing students who receive the scholarship will not receive retrospective payment for years already completed.

The scholarship is designed to help recipients meet the costs associated with study and pursuing their architecture specialisation including, but not limited, to textbooks‚ supplies‚ computing equipment or other out-of-pocket expenses.

All Aboriginal architecture and interior architecture students will be encouraged to apply irrespective of their financial position. The scholarship is not means-tested nor awarded on the basis of financial disadvantage. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

  • Identify as Australian Aboriginal* and be accepted as an Aboriginal person in the community the student belongs to, lives in, or has lived in.
  • Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident.
  • Be a commencing or continuing student studying the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (DBAE), Master of Architecture (DMAE) or Bachelor of Interior Architecture (DBIR).
  • Have full-time (preferred) or part-time enrolment.
  • Provide a written statement clearly addressing the points listed below.
  • Attend a selection panel interview.

* The reference to ‘Aboriginal’ is inclusive of both Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 750 words) detailing:

  • Reasons for studying architecture / interior architecture.
  • A brief personal statement providing some background and how they connect to family, culture, community and country.
  • Future career goals within the architecture / interior architecture industry and how the scholarship would help achieve these goals.

The scholarship will be awarded based on the written statement outlining why the applicant would be a worthy scholarship recipient and interview performance. Shared Arts Residency

The Shared Arts Residency is a valuable opportunity for Contemporary Art students to continue to develop their ideas and skills through a residency in Burra.

The eligible programs are:

  • Bachelor of Art and Design (Honours)
  • Graduate Diploma in Design (Contemporary Art)
  • Master of Design (Contemporary Art)

Residency details:

  • One week, creating pieces at the Shared Arts studio. Shared Arts is a community based not-for-profit art studio and workshop in Burra.
  • Focus will be on creation of works, skills development, and engagement with Burra and environs and its arts community.
  • Recipient has opportunity to develop work to be included in an exhibition at the Shared Arts studio (and/or Burra Regional Art Gallery).
  • Recipient will be introduced to local arts in the district.
  • Accommodation will be provided.

Swanbury Penglase Interior Architecture Grant

The Swanbury Penglase Interior Architecture Grant aims to support new talent in the interior architecture field. It will be awarded to a student enrolled full-time or part-time in the Bachelor of Interior Architecture (DBIR) four-year program.

Applicants should be nearing completion of 72 units of study (half the Bachelor of Interior Architecture program load).

The grant will be offered to students towards the end of second year and is designed to support students entering the third year of the Bachelor of Interior Architecture.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

  • Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
  • Completed/enrolled in 72 units of the DBIR program at the time of application (selection is subject to completion of 72 units)
  • Grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 or above
  • Submission of a written statement
  • Submission of Curriculum Vitae

The eligible program is:

  •  Bachelor of Interior Architecture (DBIR)

A paid work placement/internship at Swanbury Penglase is a condition of the scholarship and recipients may wish to integrate the placement into their program. The placement hours can be used towards the completion of Interior Architecture Workplacement 2 (ARCH 3060).

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

  • Reasons for studying interior architecture.
  • Academic achievement.
  • Future career goals including how the grant and placement would help achieve these goals.
  • Agreement to undertake a paid work placement at Swanbury Penglase at a mutually negotiated time and duration. There is a general expectation that the placement will be of two months duration

Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend a selection panel interview.

The grant will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, content of Curriculum Vitae and written statement, enthusiasm for the industry and the desire to undertake work with a leading South Australian architecture firm as demonstrated in the written statement.

Interpersonal skills demonstrated in the interview will also be considered.

Trevor Nickolls Aboriginal Student Art Grant

The Trevor Nickolls Aboriginal Student Art Grant honours the life and artistic work of the late Trevor Nickolls.

Trevor Nickolls (1949-2012) was a significant innovative and unique ‘urban’ Aboriginal artist who began working and exhibiting in the 1970’s. During his lifetime, he inspired and influenced many artists. He is represented in collections of all the major art museums and galleries in Australia as well as in collections in France, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States of America, and Canada.

Trevor Nickolls was a student at the South Australian School of Art, now within the University of South Australia, and the award recognises his roots and early training.

The Trevor Nickolls Aboriginal Student Art Grant will be awarded to an Aboriginal UniSA undergraduate art student who shows artistic promise and commitment.

The grant will be offered to students in Study Period 5 towards the end of their second year or third year of study in the Bachelor of Contemporary Art (DBCX)and is designed to support students entering third year or undertaking a stand-alone Honours year.

A preference may be given to third year students intending to enter Honours immediately following the completion of the DBCX program.

The grant assists recipients with their living and/or education expenses including the cost of art materials.

Eligibility and selection criteria

  • Identification as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and accepted as an Aboriginal person in the community (including urban community) the student belongs to, lives in, or has lived in.
  • Second year Bachelor of Contemporary Art (DBCX) students – applicants should be nearing completion of 72 units of study (credit can be included), or
  • Third year DBCX students intending to enrol into the Bachelor of Art and Design – Honours (DHAD) immediately following the completion of the DBCX program.
  • Full-time or part-time student
  • Experiencing financial or educational disadvantage.
  • Submission of written statement.
  • Attendance at interview including submission of art portfolio showing examples of artwork.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (500-750 words) detailing:

  • Connection with family and community.
  • Reasons for studying their current program and how the degree supports their future aspirations.
  • A summary of their art practice and achievements.
  • Details of any financial or educational disadvantage they would like considered.
  • How the grant would enhance the applicant’s learning experience and how the grant funds are likely to be used.

Applicants will need to demonstrate financial or educational disadvantage to apply for the grant. This can be done by providing evidence of current receipt of a Health Care Card and/or a means-tested Centrelink benefit e.g. Abstudy, Austudy, Youth Allowance, etc. Applicants not in receipt of government means tested benefits can complete the UniSA Scholarship Assessment Form to support their application.

Recipients will be selected based on information provided in the written statement, the art portfolio and performance in interview.

The Valda and Max Mycko Grant for Visual Arts is available to students who are enrolled full-time in the second year of a contemporary art program at UniSA. The recipient will receive up to $1,500.

The $1,500 will be paid in two instalments of $750 after the Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates in the recipient's third year of study, provided the recipient maintains full-time enrolment and satisfactory academic merit.

The grant is designed to help recipients meet the costs associated with study including textbooks, art supplies, computing equipment or other out-of-pocket expenses.

Applicants are asked to provide a personal written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:

  • Reasons for studying their current program.
  • Academic achievements - future career goals.

WBL Makers Mark Grant

To highlight the importance of integrating craft (and other disciplines) into the practice of design the Williams Burton Leopardi (WBL) Makers Mark program grants students the opportunity to expand their industry network, develop an appreciation for the process of 'making' and be mentored directly by WBL outside of their allocated studio time. 

The WBL Makers Mark Grant is available to Bachelor of Interior Architecture students enrolled in the 2nd year of their program.

The recipient will receive a total of $1600 with two instalments of $800 at the end of 2nd and 3rd year to be used for Jam Factory short courses.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

To be eligible for the grants, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or international student.
  • Be enrolled in the second year of the Bachelor of Interior Architecture (DBIR) program.
  • Be a full-time or part-time student.
  • Submit a written statement.
  • Attend an interview.

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applicants will be required to submit a maximum of 500 words ‘Proposal’ about how they plan to integrate an element of craft into their practice over the final 2 years of their Interior Architecture program.

Ziptrak Engineering and Product Design Grant

 The Ziptrak Engineering and Product Design Grant will be awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time in one of the following undergraduate programs at the University of South Australia:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Electronic)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Mechatronic)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Mechatronic)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Advanced Manufacturing)
  • Bachelor of Design (Product Design)
  • Bachelor of Art and Design (Honours)

The grant will be available to second, third or fourth-year engineering students, or second or third-year product design students.

The recipient will be offered the opportunity to engage with Ziptrak to learn more about the manufacturing industry and gain valuable experience from a leading South Australian company. The engagement will be tailored and mutually agreed between Ziptrak and the recipient and may take the form of mentoring support, work placement / internship, or paid work experience during semester breaks and the summer vacation period.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

  • Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
  • Second, third or fourth-year (engineering students) student enrolled in an eligible undergraduate program (to be eligible a student must have completed at least 27 units inclusive of credit).
  • Full-time load.

  • Reasons for studying their UniSA program and how the degree supports their aspirations.
  • Future career goals.
  • Interest in gaining work experience and insights from Ziptrak whilst completing their degree.
