Transition Grants Scheme
Eligibility Criteria
Transitions Grants available:
To be eligible to receive a Transition Grant you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be a first time university students commencing a full time undergraduate degree program at the University of South Australia.
- At the time the grant is received, you must be enrolled as a full time student at University of South Australia.
- You will need to demonstrate financial need. One of the ways that you can verify financial disadvantage is by showing that you are in receipt of a means tested Centrelink Benefit (e.g. Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy etc), and/or a Health Care Card (Not all Centrelink benefits are means tested).
- Australian citizen, permanent resident or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa.
The awarding of a grant is subject to admission to the program nominated in your letter of offer and will be confirmed after you have enrolled as a student at University of South Australia.
Please note:
- If you defer your program of study the grant cannot be deferred. You may reapply for a grant when you apply to take up your deferred offer.
- Acceptance of a transition grant may put at risk eligibility for receipt of other scholarships (eg Smith Family Learning for Life Scholarship).
- It is your responsibility to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
- Grants may, in some instances, be counted as income against Youth Allowance or other forms of government assistance payments, applicants should seek independent financial advice.
How to apply
Application will be via Student Portal My UniSA My Scholarships.
Selection process
- Selection will be made on the basis of financial need and equity considerations.
- Applicants will be ranked according to a total score derived from a set of weighted financial need, equity and educational disadvantage indicators.
- The equity weightings may be adjusted from year to year to ensure that members of the University's current equity priority areas are represented in the ranking.
- In the case of a tied score, applicants will be separated on the basis of the University's equity priorities for the current year. Otherwise, applicants will be separated on the basis of academic merit, determined by ranked ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Index) scores, GPA (Grade Point Average) or equivalent.
Offer
Successful applicants will receive an Offer of Acceptance of a Scholarship and request for Banking Details via my Scholarships, from UniSA Scholarships Office. This will detail the rights and responsibilities of both the student and the University in regard to the scholarship(s). The student will be required to accept the scholarship(s) on the my Scholarships homepage under 'my Offered scholarships' and provide Banking Details before any payment can be made.
Unsuccessful applicants will receive an email informing them that they have not gained a grant.
