The learnonline suite of tools are part of a learning and teaching ecosystem providing comprehensive learning and teaching tools which integrate with UniSA’s staff and student applications. The learnonline suite is designed to support student success through provision of appropriate learning and teaching technologies. The below list represents some of the main tools used to support learning and teaching at UniSA. Each section heading below is linked to additional information.
Please note: there are many tools in use across UniSA, some are supported centrally, these are referred to as Enterprise supported tools, and some are supported at a local level. When considering using a tool outside of the UniSA Enterprise supported tools, all tools must have a cybersecurity review prior to use.
The learnonline suite of tools includes:
The course outline provides students information about a course including objectives, assessment requirements, resources, teaching staff and course calendar. It includes relevant legislative requirements and University policies that must be communicated to students in relation to undertaking their course. The course outline is issued to students in advance of their course commencement.
Course Coordinators create a course outline for each course offering using a semi-automated web-based application. A large proportion of the document is pre-filled with approved data from the Program and Course Management System (PCMS) other section can be edited by the Course Coordinator and tailored for a specific course offering.
Gradebook is part of our LMS, the learnonline Gradebook has undergone significant enhancement to enable UniSA requirements for assessment submission, marking and return.
Staff and students can both manage assignment submission and return through a common software interface. The text comparison software Turnitin is seamlessly integrated with Gradebook and all text based assignments are automatically submitted to Turnitin. The Turnitin similarity report is published to Gradebook and can be accessed by staff and students.

Turnitin and iThenticate are two online tools that help promote students understanding of academic integrity. You will also find educative links in the left navigation within the LMS, look for Academic Integrity.
UniSA’s Virtual Classroom is powered by Zoom, a virtual meeting tool that provides an online environment, in which students and teachers can collaborate in real time. Audio, video, images and a range of interactive tools can be used to replicate classroom interaction. Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool with a local, desktop client and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without video. Zoom users can choose to record sessions, collaborate on projects, and share or annotate on one another's screens, all with one easy-to-use platform.
Zoom is integrated with the LMS and Zoom course recordings are automatically stored in Panopto and accessed by students via the in Course Recording link.
Panopto is UniSA’s preferred tool for video production. Panopto underpins the UniSA Lecture Recording System (LRS), can be used to create and share course media, and houses course Zoom recordings as well as staff video content. Panopto has many features to assist UniSA staff with recording and editing educational videos.
ePortfolio is powered by Mahara, an open source software application accessed from learnonline course sites from the UniSA Apps menu. ePortfolio is a student's personal online space for collecting and recording academic, professional and life experiences with text, photo, video, music and multimedia. Students can use it to build a resume, publish a blog, showcase achievements and academic knowledge or simply network with friends and colleagues. A body of evidence can be created, reflecting a student’s aspirations, achievements and learning experiences during their time at UniSA. Material can then be reassembled for Web presentation to target audiences or the world. The LMS includes an ePortfolio assignment submission type which allows students to submit assembled content. ePortfolio is an invaluable learning resource for students while studying at UniSA and following graduation as they shape their careers. ePortfolio is also available to all UniSA staff.
