David Pank Northern Areas Education Placement Grant

The Pank family has established the David Pank Northern Areas Education Placement Grant in memory of David Pank. The grants will be offered to high achieving students enrolled full-time in either:

(a) the third year of one of the following undergraduate programs, each of which requires a placement as part of the fourth and final year: Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science (LBES); Bachelor of Education (MBET) (Early Childhood, Primary, or Primary and Middle specialisations); LBDT Bachelor of Education (Design and Technology Education).

(b) the first year of one of the following Masters specialisations, each of which requires a placement as part of the second and final year: Master of Teaching (MMET) (Early Childhood, Primary, Primary and Middle, or Secondary specialisations).

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. The grant recipients will be selected on the basis of:

• Academic merit to be determined by the cumulative grade point average (GPA) achieved by the student in their program.
• Commitment to undertake their final placement at a Northern Suburbs public school or a rural or remote school in South Australia - An interview.

Applicants must submit a one-page written statement detailing their career objectives and how the grant will assist in achieving their goals. They should also include details of their vision for helping students in disadvantaged schools, and their passion for education.

Preference will be given to applicants with a Mathematics and Science specialisation. Grant recipients will be advised of their award in the third year of an undergraduate program or the first year of a Masters program, and will receive their payment of $1,000 after the Study Period 2 census date in the final year of their program.

Students in receipt of another Pank family scholarship, grant or prize are not eligible to apply for this grant.

Limbada Family Islamic Education Grant

The Limbada Family Islamic Education Grant will be awarded to a student enrolled in either the Graduate Diploma in Education (Islamic Education) or a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program in Islamic Studies, Islamic Education or Islamic Thought at UniSA.

The Grant aims to support recipients who intend to work in the field of Islamic education and/or to deliver education in Muslim communities, by developing a deeper, more personal and contextual understanding of Islam and strengthening the personal identity of both Muslim and non-Muslim recipients. By supporting the educational journey of recipients, the Limbada Family Islamic Education Grant aims to encourage a strong basis of faith/understanding and a desire to engage in community educational roles/work in Muslim communities.

Learning about a religion is a lifelong process, so recipients of this award are likely, having established a stronger basis in their faith/ understanding of Islam, will be better positioned to apply for work in Islamic schools or other education institutions associated with the Muslim religion where they can continue developing their knowledge base.

To receive the grant applicants must, in a written statement, demonstrate a passion for their program and have future goals related to Islamic Studies, Islamic Education or Islamic Thought.

Essential Criteria
- Enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education (Islamic Education) (MGIM), OR
- Enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research program in Islamic Studies, Islamic Education or Islamic Thought at UniSA.
- Australian Citizen‚ Australian Permanent Resident or international student.
- Either full-time or part-time, with a minimum of 9 units per semester for coursework students.
- Recipients cannot receive this award more than once.

Selection criteria
- Academic merit:
  o Graduate Diploma in Education (Islamic Education) (MGIM) students will be required to demonstrate a minimum GPA of 4 or above in their studies in the semester immediately preceding receipt of the award.
  o HDR candidates must have had their candidature confirmed and will be required to have maintained satisfactory progress as recorded in their Reviews of Progress preceding receipt of the award.

- Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:
   o Reasons for studying Islamic Studies, Islamic Education or Islamic Thought and how the degree supports their aspirations.
   o Academic achievements.
   o Community involvement.
   o Future career goals within the education sector.

Value: $5,000

Farid Un Nisa Usmani Islamic Education Grant

The Farid Un Nisa Usmani Islamic Education Grant will be awarded to a student enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Education Islamic Education .

To receive the grant, applicants must demonstrate a passion for their Islamic education program, and have future goals related to Islamic education.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

• Enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Education - Islamic Education (MCIM).
• Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or international student.
• Academic merit (based on performance in undergraduate degree at UniSA or another institution.
• Full-time (preferred) or part-time.
• Submission of a written statement.

Full-time recipients will be given preference, but part-time applicants will be considered where there is a demonstrated need to study part time. Where a part-time recipient is selected, funds will be awarded pro rata.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) outlining:

• Reasons for studying the Islamic education program and how the degree supports their aspirations.
• Academic achievements.
• Community involvement.
• Future career goals within the education sector.
