Space Planning
The UniSA Space Management & Planning Guidelines support optimal space utilisation across the University. Originally developed in 1999, the Guidelines were substantially updated in 2015 to reflect contemporary practice in space planning and management. The Guidelines set out roles and responsibilities for space management, provide planning guidelines for a range of teaching and research facilities, and promote collaborative workspace design.
Collaborative workspaces enable the University to:
- Foster greater collaboration and exchange of knowledge between staff, students and other stakeholders, providing opportunities for teamwork and collegiality.
- Encourage the development of a contemporary work culture based on sharing, supporting a mobile and connected workforce.
- Provide greater amenity, equity and choice to all staff in the workplace, improving access to natural daylight and views to aid in workplace health and wellbeing, and helping to improve staff satisfaction, productivity and service delivery.
- Contribute to sustainability by reducing organisational costs and excess material wastage through better planning and utilisation of office space.
- Support a diverse range of end user functional requirements within adaptable fit-outs that reduce the cost of changes and extend economic life.
Contemporary collaborative workplaces must be adaptable to change in work practices and technology, be cost and space effective and, most importantly, support what people do rather than who they are. For this reason, our staff will be accommodated in flexible open workspaces that offer a balance of active team spaces and reflective individual spaces.
