Designated First Responder Training

Audience: Invitation only

Prerequisites:
Participants must complete the Sexual Assault Sexual Harassment (SASH) online course prior to attending, and have read the university’s sexual assault sexual harassment policy (C-12.5)

First Responders are members of the
UniSA community who, as part of their substantive role, are the first point of contact for anyone who has been subjected to sexual assault or sexual harassment.  First Responders are trained to provide information on the support services and disclosing and reporting options available to students or staff who have been subjected to sexual assault or sexual harassment.

First Responders understand that disclosing or reporting sexual assault or sexual harassment can be difficult and they are expected to listen to the person’s concerns without judgement and to guide them to the right information and support services which best meet their needs.  They will respect the person’s right to choose which services and support options they want to access and whether to make a disclosure or report to the university or the police.  This training provides staff with the information and resources needed to understand their role and responsibilities as First Responders.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe sexual assault and sexual harassment (SASH)
  • Describe the impact of SASH on individuals, groups, the university and the community
  • Describe the role of a Designated First Responder
  • Demonstrate the required skills to appropriately respond to SASH disclosures
  • Analyse your own competence as a Designated First Responder and identify areas for further development

This training is available to all Designated First Responders. For further information or support, please contact People & Organisational Development.
