Connect to UniSA via VPN client

Important:

The use of all Information Technology (IT) facilities at the University of South Australia, including the UniSA wired and wireless networks, is subject to the University's Acceptable use of Information Technology (IT) facilities policy

 

In order to connect, you will need:

  • Valid and active UniSA network account (username and password)
    NOTE: Staff automatically have permission to log into the VPN, students will need to email the IT Help Desk to request access.
  • f5 BigIP Edge Client software installed (see staff or student instructions).

NOTE: We highly recommend disconnecting from VPN when not in use for security reasons and to ensure no future issues (see staff or student instructions).

The use of the VPN on the University wired network is also not recommended.

  1. Click up arrow, far right of Taskbar (near clock and calendar) to display more system tray items
  2. Click f5
  3. Click Connect
  4. Default web browser will open, Enter your UniSA email address and click Next.
  5. You will then be taken to the UniSA Federation page, where you need to enter your username and password.
    NOTE: Depending on the browser you use, it might populate the Username field with your email address for you from step 3 - thats ok, you just need to enter your Password.
  6. The Okta Multifactor Authentication page will appear, click the Send Code or Push Notification button, enter code and click Verify.
  7. After verifying through MFA successfully, the browser will advise when its OK to close the tab.
    NOTE: Depending on your device/browser, you may only be prompted to do Steps 3-5 once and upon connecting in the future you just need to wait for your browser to show sign in completed.
  8. The Big-IP Client app will run through the initializing and once completed will minimize itself. The icon (bottom right corner of the screen, near the date/time) will flash red and once connected successfully will be a solid red icon.

  1. Using Launchpad find and open the application titles BIG-IP Edge Client
  2. When it opens, it will open your systems default web browser and prompt for an email address.
    Enter your UniSA email address and click Next.
  3. You will then be taken to the UniSA Federation page, where you need to enter your username and password.
  4. The Okta Multifactor Authentication page will appear, click the Send Code or Push Notification button, enter code and click Verify.
  5. The browser will advise when MFA completed successfully, at which point, you can close the tab.
  6. The Big-IP VPN Shield icon (on the menu bar across the top of the screen) will display some loading dots and then go solid white in the middle indicating it is connected.

To connect to an application

  1. Locate and open the app on your phone then slide the connection switch to turn on the VPN
  2. Enter your username, password and press “sign in”
  3. Press send code and enter the verification code received
  4. The status will change to connected and show the session time.
  5. Launch the application

UniSA STEM users should follow the Installation Guide to ensure only the necessary modules of the F5 VPN are installed.
